My wife and I plan on moving to the Charlotte area soon. Does anyone have any advice on a good place to move to.We have 0 kids, but plan on raising our family there and both work in the public schools, so jobs in that area would have to be available. Nothing to much in the country, but not downtown either. Thanks We want to buy a house in the 150-175,000 range

im 15 years old and live right by charlotte, like 20 min away. not sure if it is better to live in it or in a suburb or which suburb

University area would be a great place or you...Many new subdivisions out o o Mallard Creek (Church and Lane,) and on the border of CLT/Harrisburgh i.e. Caldwell Rd, Tom Query, or Back Creek Church. Set away rom downtown but accessible to resteraunts, the race track, grocery stores, and Concord Mills (the biggest mall in NC.) I bought a house in the area (coventry subdivsion) there 3 years ago, and just sold mine two weeks ago for a profit...most houses range from 150-225K Look of of H-49 past around I485, or around the mallard creek area off of 85 also.

But there's always the possibility that you could get DEPLOYED and there's no guarantee it's a round-trip ticket. If you like adventure then, this might be a thought. While you're working you can also take college courses to better yourself and they pay for it. Just a thought.

What is a fun and healthy activity for a teenage girl to partake in?

What is a fun and healthy activity for a teenage girl to partake in?
I'm 13 and I live near Charlotte North Carolina. My mother really wants me to join a sport at my school or do something active, so I can have something else to put other than "smart" on a college application, and for the sheer benefits of doing /something/. I am really frustrated because the internet is yeilding stupid results that are so irrelevent from my inquiries that I can't make an analogy fit. Please give your suggestions. ***I cannot do volleyball or anything similar because my left arm was recently broken.

softball is great for girls
2 :
you can do soccer, that doesn't include your arm.. and if you don't want to do any sports there are usually after-school activities you can participate in, ask your school about them.. they usually have a yearbook club, or newspaper or other things like that.. i'm on volleyball, class of 2012 and do volunteer work at my school =]
3 :
try joining track or cross country, at your age running/jogign is excellent for your body and does not require your arms. Also academic based aftter school activites such as DECA etc look great on college apps too!
4 :
why not try a swimming team or something like dancing? it is fun and enjoyable and maybe you'll find that you really like it. if you don't want to do something like sports, then things like choir or orchestra look really good on college applications too. volunteer work also looks good, and things like the scouts are great for applications (although I don't know the cut off age for joining that). even something like art would be great, basically any extracurricular activity is good because it shows the college that you have hobbies, are a well rounded person, and arent lazy. honestly i think that art and music activities get a lot more attention that sports these days just because not that many people want to partake in an orchestra or sculpture class, etc. the main thing is trying different stuff and experimenting to find something you like and enjoy doing.. then you can build that hobby and put more time into it and really cultivate it into something you enjoy and are good at. it is going to look a lot better on an application if you say, enjoy art and have awards from art contests, are a member of an art club, help sponser art related events thru a group, etc, than if you list 3 different sport teams that you played on for 2 months and then got bored with.
5 :
Sports are great. Join a school team or a club team in your town. Wait for your arm to heal, then play. Explain to the coach that your arm was broken and that you can't try out but would really like to play, and I'm sure they will let you.
6 :
swimming is always a fun sport to do, you could try synchronized swimming. Or dance, there are many different styles so you could find one that you enjoy, whether that be hip hop, break dance, ballroom, or ballet. I would strongly recommend dance because it is fun, and a great way to meet new people. Whatever you choose have fun
7 :
Here is a list of sports! 1. Basketball 2. Softball 3.Lacrosse 4. Dancing 5. Gymnastics 6. Band (or take up an instrument outside of school). 7. Choir 8. Tennis 9. Snowboarding/Skiing 10. Track & Field 11. Soccer 12. Cross Country 13. Bike Riding 14. Swimming *that's really all I can think of. Hope I gave you some ideas.

i really like them, they sound good except for "rufus". I don't know why Rufus just doesn't seem to suit a character like this... it just sounds odd to me. I hate it when there are amazing stories, but the names are weird or unreadble. Sorry! It's probably not weird to anyone but me, but just my opinion!
3 :
The never knew I had a twin thing is a bit cliche, though I do take a liking to your characters. They seem quite real meaning that I can imagine a person like this. Very good job it seems like you've outlined your characters very nicely.

How can I get an emancipation but still have child support?

How can I get an emancipation but still have child support?
So I live in China. I'm an expat. I'm sixteen and I hate it. I just want to move back to my hometown (Charlotte, North Carolina) with my aunt and uncle and cousin. I was thinking that my parents could provide the money they need to pay for me and I would go to public school. It is a good idea for three reasons: 1. make me more mature and teach me about responsibility (I have a maid so therefor never wash my clothes clean my room, etc). 2. it would raise my grades (I have bad grades because my school is too hard for me. And if my grades are better then I'll get into a better college). 3. it would make me respect my parents more (I get into fights constantly with them and this distance would teach me to appreciate them more. Is there some way I can get them to let me do this without them being able to object (I thought about emancipation but I realized they wouldn't be required by law to provide for me anymore.) Is there any way I can get legally separated from them but they still have to provide money?

I don't think you can have it both ways

Sorry it doesn't work that way. Once you break away from them, you break away for good. Also being emancipated means, you live on your own, go to school and hold a job. Not live with family and want someone else to support you. There's a word for that. Free loading.

What do you think of my essay?

What do you think of my essay?
I am supposed to write an essay for my homeschooling program but i'm not sure how it came out. A few reviews would be great :D Have you ever moved to a new place? Ever had to leave your home, pack all your belongings, say goodbye to all your friends, and go to a place where you know no one? In the past four years i’ve had to do that twice. It was very difficult but taught me a lot about life and how it can change in the blink of an eye. I was born in Connecticut and lived there until I was twelve. Growing up there I had made friends in school and was happy and comfortable. My parents had also grown up there so they knew the place well and had family in the area. Our family lived in a brick colonial with green shutters on a nice little street. We were all happy there except for my dad. When I was little my dad hurt his back and since then has had five back operations. He is currently being “held together” as he always says, by two rods and screws in his lower back. Because of this, when the winter would come he would constantly be in severe pain because of the cold. The doctors told him the only way to stop the pain would be to move to a place with a warm climate, so he applied for a transfer with his job to the sunshine state of Florida. A year went by and we never heard anything from the job. My dad had applied for a few other positions throughout the year but never heard anything back until finally, one day, he received a call letting him know that his transfer application had been accepted and he had to be in Florida within forty-five days. We were all stunned to say the least. Moving to a new place is difficult by itself, never mind having to do it in forty-five days. Eventually, my parents realized that it was impossible, especially because we still had a house to sell and my little brother and I were in the middle of the school year. So my dad went to Florida by himself for three months while my mom took care of the house and we finished out the school year. When it came time to leave everyone was exhausted. I guess thats what happens when you have to pack up your whole life in just a few short months. Saying goodbye to all your friends and family doesn't make things any easier either. I remember right before we drove away we were saying goodbye to my aunt and cousins. My mom and aunt were crying as they gave each other one last hug. Its a difficult thing leaving people behind but we had no choice at that point, so we got in the car and started thinking about our new life in the sunshine state. For the first year I hated living in Florida. I was having trouble making friends and often felt lonely and unhappy. Everyone always says when you move to a knew place you just need time to adjust but for me it felt like that place would never feel like home. Things got even worse once I started school. I found the school I went to very chaotic and unorganized. I saw a fight at least once a week and found the things that were being taught I had learned already. After a while I couldn't take being in the public school so I had my parents enroll me in a private school which had a lot less kids and the curriculum was more advanced. After switching schools things started getting better. It took some time but I finally began to adjust and make some friends. Things get going uphill from there. I really started liking Florida and finally felt like I could call it home. Unfortunately, as things got better for me, they got worse for my dads job. They started cutting back hours and soon he was only being guaranteed twenty hours a week and with my mom out of work there was no way we could live on that. So once again he put in to transfer from Florida to Charlotte, North Carolina and once again we didnt hear anything for well over a year. Seeing as how I had come to love living in Florida though I really didn't mind though. Then one day about five months ago he received another call saying his transfer had been accepted. Unlike before however, they gave us more time to pack up and move. Moving this time has been the same in some ways and different in others. I found leaving Florida more difficult than leaving Connecticut because I had become really close to my friends there. The actual moving part was the same however. It was just as chaotic as last time. I thought that since I had moved before I would be able to adjust easier and make friends more quickly, but unfortunately it’s the same as last time. I find myself missing my old friends and wanting to go back. I know that in time things will probably change as they have before, its just hard in the meantime. My family, on the other hand, seems to like it here. My little brother has made some new friends, my mom loves the scenery, and my dad loves his new job hours. So even though I don't like it, i’m glad my family does. Thinking about my life in the past four years, I cant help think about how fast life can chang

Who here believes in signs?

Who here believes in signs?
I'm kind of going through a tough 2-3 years. Hadn't had a good job, no real potential relationships, and can't find good friends. Now some people I talk to believe that it has to be me and something I'm doing wrong. I have looked over situations and I don't see how that is possible. I have been thinking of moving for the past few years do you think this is why I haven't had such good luck in anything. I did have an amazing job with a great part time job, lots of friends, and an amazing dates/boyfriend-then I lost both jobs (budget cuts/closing) and everything went after that. I was thinking about moving to tennessee then on tv that's all i heard about and the first person i met at my school was from tennessee...now i'm not thinking of moving there but charlotte, north carolina (cuz there is family)...Anyways I also have been finding pennies everywhere since my great grandmother died...do you think this is coincidence or really a sign that i should move? whats with the pennies?

god could be disapointed with you with something you have done, or he could just be testing your faith so i would say stay strong in your faith.
3 :
Not this kind of sign...I do believe in coincidence. However, maybe the reason this stands out to you so much is because you're feeling the need to make a change in your life and need the "sign" to help you feel okay with the idea. Either way, research your options and go with it.
4 :
Finding pennies is an excellent sign. Listen to your heart and do what's right for you.
5 :
I totally believe in signs, but I believe we make our own signs. That doesn't diminish them, it's a sign of hope within yourself. You know that you need a change, and that you need hope again and so you take the chance to recognize that hope with every penny you pick up. Now is the time to listen to your own signs and do the things you believe in.
6 :
Of course I believe in signs. They're every where if you look for them. There one right on the corner up from my house. It is red and says "STOP". I see them everywhere around town. How can you not believe in them. The most interesting one I've seen is one that is very sharp on its edges and can cut you - it says "Caution: THIS SIGN HAS SHARP EDGES. DO NOT TOUCH THE EGDES OF THIS SIGN." Sorry, couldn't resist.
7 :
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes I saw the sign.

Sweet Pea a man can gain the whole world and loose his soul and then were would he be? I think you are going through a change in life and God is leading you to him. Your life will be more prosperous and fulfilling when you let the Lord Thy God take over. if you ask him were should you go he will make it so clear to you. He will even provide a way and set your life back on track. Open your heart and receive all that he has in store, I promise if you do that from this day on you will never be he same. God Bless!
9 :
I usually pay attention to the big, red octagonal one that says "stop"
10 :
I believe in Signs and that they can be useful, a "Mind Your Head" sign stops you from getting concussion. But I get the feeling that they are not the signs that you are on about. I don't believe in spiritual signs but I believe in coincidences, these are happening to you at the moment and because your in a bad state (I hope it comes to an end soon) you see these as signs of hope.
11 :
I am of two minds abouts such phenomena. It's hard for me to discount some occurrences as coincidences especially when they reoccur in what seems to be a pattern. Other people discount every 'sign' as a simply random coincidence and nothing else.

You are on the right track, because you are at least AWARE that you need a change - - now you need to DO IT - stop wasting time and energy asking this or that - - just pack your things, pick a place, say good bye and GO!!!! If it were ME, I would pick where family is - at least that way you are not completely alone in a unfamiliar place. It is said that when you find MONEY, it is a past relative or friend trying to contact you - it could also mean someone dropped their piggy bank or had a hole in their pocket - - again, FOCUS on CHANGE, not the past or what this or that might mean - GO - you will find out in due time.
14 :
change is the only constant in this life we have .. so when things are not going the way you want them to then it is up to you to seek change. when seeking change be specific. if your whole life sucks then change jobs , churches, friends, hobbies the food you eat , and even your wardrobe and remember the only tangible change is family . some of those you keep close and yet others you keep at an arms length. being happy is not a necessity just a nice bonus. behave your way to success.. act happy and you will attract it back at you.. good luck in this journey. . .

sounds great the characters seem like people I could connect with which is the main thing the names are good and unique. Its not mary-sue which is good. I would read it keep it up....
3 :
Your main character sounds the most intriguing, with such a major character flaw as lying. I believe all characters should have flaws. Allison should be more popular if she's so kind and funny, and that will also create some conflict in school (i.e. no one can hate Alli, so they put up with Brandi for her sake, but behind Allison's back they're always mean to her or something), and add more of a background to Brandi. Is Tyler Brandi's love interest? Make sure to add more depth to him, like his reaction to Brandi's lying - like he knows she lying but he only chides her for it or something. Sounds like a good storyline to me. :)

They kind of all sound like angst-Sue's. Sorry. I know, it happens. :( I had to do some MAJOR character editing on my last story. Maybe take a litmus test? http://www.springhole.net/quizzes/marysue.htm

The characters are great ages are a little annoying. When i read a book where everyone is the same age is say 17 its all to much. Good that Allison is younger maybe make Tyler 18? Just a thought relates to more people that way too

What part of North Carolina should I move to?

What part of North Carolina should I move to?
I currently live in Upstate NY (in a very suburban area) and I plan on moving about April 2009. I have family that lives in Charlotte, and I'd like to live within 2-3 hours from them, but I want to live near (no more than 30 minutes away from) a beach. I want warm summers and springs, gorgeous falls, and mild snow in winter. I have a 16 year old daughter and she's very artsy, so I'd like to live in an area where she could utilize that. I have another child on the way, so I'll need a good school for the both of them, as well as a safe neighborhood. I'm a nurse, so I'll need to live in an area with a major hospital. My parents will move with us, and I'll need a duplex or a house with an in-law apartment for them. My dad enjoys golfing (perhaps he could join a country club?) and my mom would need to live within 10 minutes of retail stores. Animals are extremely important to me; I rescue them and I have a lot of my own. I'll definitely need a good veterinary hospital (I currently live near one of the best that NY has) and a very animal-friendly community. I'd like to spend no more than $250,000 on a house, but I'm not sure what I could get for that. I'm not aware if these things are unrealistic, but I would appreciate some advice!

Charlotte is about 3 hours west from where I am (Raleigh), but Raleigh is a good few hours at least to the beach. NC is very spread out, it can take you 7 hours to drive across the entire length of the state. This was weird for me, coming from NY also, because up there you can drive 2 hours and be in another state lol. The Raleigh area will provide everything you are looking for given your descriptions. I would avoid Durham as parts aren't as nice, Chapel Hill or Cary may also work, but Cary people have reputations for being jerks (and ex-Yankees with too much money) plus Cary has a bunch of weird restrictions on how you can decorate your lawn etc. Raleigh has every store you know and love from the northland, and more. LOTS of great colleges here, which means lots of good art programs. Anything more east of Raleigh is hickville, but if you don't mind driving a bit to get places its ok. Raleigh itself is about 1 hour drive to get across the entire city, so everyone will need a car. $250k will get you a decently large sized house here, and a mansion if you go outside town. Lots of golfing and places with activities, great hospitals (Duke, Rex, and Wake Med). Lots of animal groups around too, its one of the more liberal areas in NC. I recommend ! Just be warned, the summers here are ridiculously unbearably hot! GL ! :)

State of North carolina?

State of North carolina?
I'm moving to NC and am planning on going to school. The only problem is that i don't have a lot of money and am 18 years old wanting to go to school in a major city in north carolina. My family lives in the town of roper, NC and i don't want to go to college around there. Should i move into a dorm. What would be the cost and how i would get sum kind of financial aid grant or scholarship. I was thinking of Greenville, Charlotte, winston-salem or greensboro. I want a place where racism isn't a big issue like no kkk or anything, has a high population of african americans, and Beautiful Women.

would you read this book?

would you read this book?
and give it a rating from 1-10 based on how excited you are about reading it. thank you! Bridgette McLure is a fifteen year old girl in Charlotte, North Carolina. She goes to a normal high school with her friend, Dionne Hartman, but Dionne has started acting strange. When Dionne’s unusual death occurs, Bridgette is horrified. Kyle Hartman, Dionne’s strange cousin, suddenly appears in Bridgette’s life and begins to explain to her what happened to Dionne and that she must take Dionne’s place in a strange other world, where beautiful silver fish carry messages and amorphamets war with the armies of a vicious tyranny. How can Bridgette and her new Ally Anthony win the war without tearing the new world apart? all right, all right, you're right, forget the fish thing, haha. but besides that?

"where beautiful silver fish carry messages" come on that sounds like something my 5 year old sister would put in a story. The part about "but Dionne has started acting strange. When Dionne’s unusual death occurs, Bridgette is horrified. Kyle Hartman, Dionne’s strange cousin, suddenly appears in Bridgette’s life and begins to explain to her what happened to Dionne" got me hooked but when I heard the rest it started sounding like the author started writing the beginning and couldn't think of an end to it so they made something up to fill in the blanks and the editor only read the beginning and that's the whole reason it even got published!

Sounds like a great book! I am a writer too and your summary even catches my eyes! I think it has great potential but of course you are going to have to match that with great but simple writing. With action books that are like that you are going to want simple writing with just a bit and just enough descriptiveness. If you describe too much it will turn the book slow and very unattractive. Best of luck! Email me if you wish! BTW 9 1/2!!!

Not really my type of book, but I know my Best friend would! She loves that stuff! but no for me! sorry...

well, it started out cool, and i was thinking that i would really like something like this. But then you got to the fish. Everything is cool... but the silver fish. I'm sorry, but I just can't stand things like that. No offense. But the rest sounded awesome. Add some romance, though. I would only read it if it had some sort of romantic action. Maybe... 7 out of 10?

umm yea the "beautiful silver fish carry messages." kinda threw me off.

I love it all except for the silver fish thing! But seriously, it sounds great. I give it about an 7 for the fish thing, but without the fish thing you might even get up to a nine.

You'll find plenty of jobs in the finance and banking sector (and IT). If you qualify for jobs in banking you will be set. Charlotte can offer a good way of life. Also consider Jacksonville, FL and Savannah Georgia.

They're all good schools. Asheville is in the mountains, so the late summer and early spring will be a little cooler than at the other schools and the winters will be quite a bit colder. Asheville is a lovely city and I know you would enjoy being there. My daughter went to UNC-Greensboro for all 4 years, and LOVED it. It's a safe campus. Greensboro is a smaller city but there is LOTS to do there, from sports and the arts to volunteer opportunities. Just be aware that like many universities, their history department faculty tend to be very liberal and you have to do a lot of independent reading to discover for yourself when a professor is presenting a half-truth just because it favors his political agenda. That's true of most colleges, but since our daughter went there and took the classes, I KNOW it to be true at UNCG. She double majored in political science and broadcast communications and assignments in her classes often overlapped. So she would have to research something for broadcasting and in going deeper than what the history class taught, she discovered more than once that the history profs didn't always present history objectively. UNC-Wilmington is at the beach. That's where we tried to convince her to go. After all, having her on campus would give us a great excuse to visit the beach once a month, right? :-) It is a good school and again, you'll find a lot of professors in history who present a slanted view of events, and usually it's to the liberal side. Wilmington is an old city, a very historic port. If you're interested in American history, you'll find a lot to learn off campus. UNC-Charlotte is located in NC's largest city. The campus is toward an edge of town. Twenty-five years ago when we traveled down NC 49 for the first time, much of it was rural and you were in the country just 20 minutes away from campus. Now this whole area has grown considerably. The Lowes Motor Speedway is nearby in Concord. Charlotte probably has more opportunities for jobs, night life, arts, sports and pretty much anything than any other city on your list. Will you have an opportunity to visit North Carolina to see these schools for yourself? UNC-Charlotte is about 85 miles south of High Point, which is about 15 miles from UNC-G. You could easily fly into Greensboro on a Friday evening, visit UNC-G and High Point on Saturday, drive to Charlotte on Saturday evening, and visit the campus there on Sunday. Greensboro is right in the center of the state. If you go east on I-40, UNC-Wilmington is about a 3 1/2 hour drive. Asheville is west on I-40, again about 3 1/2 hours. As a parent, I would have been pleased for my daughter to attend any of the schools you've listed.
