Which city would be best for a young mother of two young boys relocating.?
I have been looking at relocating to North Carolina and I narrowed it down to four cities. Wilmington, Cary, Charlotte and Raleigh. I want to move where there are great schools,places where there are alot of activities and recreation for my kids to play. I am 32yrs.old with section 8, seperated and going to school fulltime for cosmetology. In Cleveland there are no jobs, crime rate is sky high and more that fifty percent of the homes are in forclosure. So the ideal place for me is where I can find a job, great school system,and a nice home where I don't have to worry about foreclosure. This will be my first time ever leaving Cleveland, Ohio. Which ever place I choose I want to make sure it's perfect. My kids are 12 and 10yrs. old and they have alot of energy. They enjoy playing football, going swimming, riding bikes,parks, and movies. This is all a big part of my deciding the best place. I chose Wilmington for the beach,Cary for the schools, Raleigh seems like alot and Charlotte.

If the Durham, North Carolina city council follows through with their plan to accept the controversial Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a legal form of identification. The government of Mexico through its consulates, distributes the cards throughout the United States, mostly to those living in the country illegally. The Durham City Attorney issued the following statement on the matter: "The official purpose of the card is to demonstrate that the holder is a Mexican citizen living outside of Mexico. It includes an official Government of Mexico issued ID number and bears a photograph and address of the Mexican National to whom it is issued." Since the announcement, the city council has received dozens of complaints from citizens, many worried that the cards will lead to illegal aliens voting in elections. Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States.� Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have.� The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. It would also serve as acceptable identification with the police. In September, the staff of the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh came to Charlotte’s Concord High School to sign up thousands of Mexican nationals for Matricula Consular cards and passports. While Mexican officials made the ridiculous claim that they are distributing the documents so that the illegal aliens can safely return home, the real motivation is to assist Charlotte’s large illegal population in obtaining driver’s licenses. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina.� Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents,� and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation� will fulfill that requirement. Another reason for the distribution of the Matricula Consular cards is to help Mexican illegal aliens secure bank accounts, credit cards, and loans in this country. Of course, we all know that on October 26, 2001, President Bush signed the USA Patriot Act. However, I would wager to say that almost no one knows that contained in section 326(b) of the USA Patriot Act is a provision that allows US banks to accept Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a valid form of ID for opening bank accounts. It should be noted that while our President and Congress ordered American banks to recognize these Mexican-issued cards, there is not one Mexican bank which accepts their own government’s Matricula Consular card as a valid form of ID, because the bearer’s identity is basically untraceable. Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges.?
OK, so I am a rising senior at a high school on the outskirts of North Carolina. I have awesome grades, and I have applied to another of schools. While I'm not Ivy League material, I have some good options. I got accepted into UNC and Duke. But, here's the thing. There is a small college called Wingate University that's near Charlotte. I received a full four year ride there for winning their annual Shakespeare recitation competition, including room and board, books, and a meal card. So, my parents are giving me the choice. I'll get ten grand a year from them no matter what. So, I can spend that ten grand plus take loans out every year and attend UNC. So, by the end of college, I'll be forty thousand dollars in debt. Or, I can just buy a new car with the money and also have some spending cash, but have to go to Wingate. I don't know if this changes anything, but I want to be a lawyer. Also, I want to be close to home, but not too close, and UNC and Wingate are the same distance away from me. Im not sure if I want a big college or a small one. But here is the main decision. Choose the expensive better college, or the free, smaller college.

I would say go to the smaller college. law school is ridiculously expensive, and forty thousand dollars saved is forty thousand dollars you don't have to pile onto law school debt. OR, you could transfer after going to Wingate to save ten thousand - twenty thousand dollars to UNC to have that nice name on your degree and look better in law school admission eyes.

Take the free, see how you like it for you can always transfer after taking some basic courses. Anywhere you go you still need math, English and some pre-law. You will appreciate the free later on.

You'll probably have a much better experience at UNC or Duke than the smaller school, you don't want to be spending 4 years of your life at a place you settled for just because of the money because you will be miserable. It's not worth it, plus almost every has debt from college, it's not uncommon and you'll be able to pay it off. You'll have a much better chance of getting into a good law school from a better college and with law, it's all about where you went. Good luck.

The conventional wisdom says to go to the larger, big-name school as a likely better springboard for graduate school and your career in law.. those things matter because people believe that they matter, they use the university's screening process as a de facto screening process for you throughout your life.. but, that's primarily a perceptual issue and if the educational resources are similar at both schools, you do have an important determination to make.. The truth is, though, that you need to know some things about yourself, perhaps not yet in evidence.. which environment will you enjoy more and thrive in? Answer, probably both.. remember that the main thing that you have going for you on the path that you're on is that you're the one on that path, and can change direction if need be.. Here's one perspective: put the debt and other financial considerations aside for a moment and consider this a long-term decision.. if the financial aspects were exactly the same, which would you choose? that's where you should strongly consider going.. Have you visited the campuses? if not, do so.. sit in on a class.. talk to the students.. eat the food.. check out the talent, whatever, but get a feeling for the places.. and trust your feelings.. Bottom line, please yourself.. you're the one that's going to have to "walk the walk" of this decision.. But the reality is, that while very different, the choice here isn't between poison and food, it's between two different alternative paths with a bunch of positives going for each one.. Good luck Forrest Gump. Life may be like a box of chocolates, but you do get to choose which ones you actually bite into.. And one more thing. The world isn't just hoping that you figure out this dilemma and many more along your path to becoming a productive member of society and making the world a little better place every day.. it's counting on it.. good luck, Jake.. this may feel like an awkward decision with lots of implications that you'll be living with, and it is, but it's part of one the best times of your life.. how exciting!

It's too late to apply for next year genius. Okay, that resume is excessively long and it looks like you did it all for college acceptance. Colleges don't like that. I don't reccomend putting it all on your application, because quite honestly, it doesn't say anything unique about you. It shows that you're just another kid who wants to pack their resume with things that they think colleges will like (which colleges actually hate.) Just saying.

It's too late to apply for next year genius. Okay, that resume is excessively long and it looks like you did it all for college acceptance. Colleges don't like that. I don't reccomend putting it all on your application, because quite honestly, it doesn't say anything unique about you. It shows that you're just another kid who wants to pack their resume with things that they think colleges will like (which colleges actually hate.) Just saying.

He alone has done more to prevent enforcement of the immigration laws than anyone in US history. It was he who called the Minutemen 'vigilantes'. I feel betrayed when someone calls a patriotic group such a cheap word. The Minutemen volunteered to do the job that you ,Mr. President, prohibited the Border Patrol in doing their job. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. I think history will record your terms as the worst in US history. I know I already have. Personally I would not have a problem if Congress did the right thing and impeached Mr. Bush for dereliction of duties on not protecting the borders and a TOTAL failure on enforcing the immigration laws. Furthermore, I would not have a problem if HE was deported after impeachment. Mr. President, it sure would have been nice if you had made your goals public before you became president instead of having them kept secret and then trying to shove them down our legal throats after the fact.

If the Durham, North Carolina city council follows through with their plan to accept the controversial Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a legal form of identification. The government of Mexico through its consulates, distributes the cards throughout the United States, mostly to those living in the country illegally. The Durham City Attorney issued the following statement on the matter: "The official purpose of the card is to demonstrate that the holder is a Mexican citizen living outside of Mexico. It includes an official Government of Mexico issued ID number and bears a photograph and address of the Mexican National to whom it is issued." Since the announcement, the city council has received dozens of complaints from citizens, many worried that the cards will lead to illegal aliens voting in elections. Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States.� Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have.� The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. It would also serve as acceptable identification with the police. In September, the staff of the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh came to Charlotte’s Concord High School to sign up thousands of Mexican nationals for Matricula Consular cards and passports. While Mexican officials made the ridiculous claim that they are distributing the documents so that the illegal aliens can safely return home, the real motivation is to assist Charlotte’s large illegal population in obtaining driver’s licenses. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina.� Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents,� and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation� will fulfill that requirement. Another reason for the distribution of the Matricula Consular cards is to help Mexican illegal aliens secure bank accounts, credit cards, and loans in this country. Of course, we all know that on October 26, 2001, President Bush signed the USA Patriot Act. However, I would wager to say that almost no one knows that contained in section 326(b) of the USA Patriot Act is a provision that allows US banks to accept Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a valid form of ID for opening bank accounts. It should be noted that while our President and Congress ordered American banks to recognize these Mexican-issued cards, there is not one Mexican bank which accepts their own government’s Matricula Consular card as a valid form of ID, because the bearer’s identity is basically untraceable. A worn red, white and blue sign taped to the front door of ResourceMFG warns potential hires that the recruiter uses a federal program to root out illegal immigrants. Branch manager Tamara Mantooth put the sign up about two months ago when she noticed that nearly half the company's applicants presented questionable IDs. “It was interesting,†she said. “After we put the sign up, some people would come up to the door, look at the sign and then turn away.†Her company is one of a growing number in North Carolina and across the country enrolling in E-Verify, a once-obscure program run by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration. Critics say it's a flawed and expensive program that doesn't deter illegal immigration. But as the Obama administration warns that it will focus on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, N.C. firms are choosing the free and voluntary program in record numbers. In the past two years, the number of enrolled N.C. companies has increased by more than 700percent to 2,567. Local participants include Bank of America, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and the Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge. Last year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, made more than 6,000 workplace arrests; 135 were employers and managers. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a Senate hearing last week that ICE can do better. “Active enforcement of our immigration laws must address not just the illegal workers themselves,†she said, “but also the employers who hire illegal labor and fuel the phenomenon of illegal immigration into the United States.†Worried about raids Gilberto Bergman, president of Bergman Brothers Staffing of Charlotte, says companies can no longer claim they didn't know they hired workers using fake IDs. He said companies are using E-Verify to protect themselves in the event of raids or investigations. Bergman cited an October raid of an N.C.-based House of Raeford Farms plant in Greenville, S.C. More than 300 workers were detained. The plant manager, the human resource manager and about a dozen supervisors were arrested on immigration charges.“When you actually hear that they're going to go ahead and prosecute, take to court the people who actually did the hiring, that's a big concern for HR people,†he said. “Employers are paying a lot more attention to who they are hiring, especially here in the Carolinas,†A 2006 Observer investigation found illegal immigrants working for major N.C. road-building companies using Social Security numbers that were fake, stolen or belonging to dead people. Using payroll records from contractors, including Rea Contracting of Charlotte, the newspaper found questionable Social Security numbers for a third of 85 workers. Rea is now using E-Verify, according to ICE. Advocates, critics E-Verify was first tested in 1997 so employers could compare employment forms to Social Security and immigration records. Participation nationally has been expanding at a rate of about 1,000 new employers a week, Napolitano said. More than 122,000 employers are enrolled, nearly five times more than in 2007. Last year, President Bush signed an order requiring companies that do business with the federal government to use E-Verify. South Carolina, Arizona and Mississippi require all employers to use E-Verify, according to the National Immigration Law Center. North Carolina passed a law in 2006 requiring that all state employees, including those at universities, be vetted by E-Verify. Opponents claim the program does not effectively reduce illegal immigrants. The Immigration Policy Center, a pro-immigrant research group, says E-Verify ensnares American job seekers in database errors, adds to employers' costs and “does not actually prevent undocumented immigrants from getting jobs.†The Congressional Budget Office estimated that expanding the federal verification program could cost $17billion over the next 10 years. But Napolitano endorses E-Verify, saying ICE has fixed many of its shortcomings. Mantooth said using the program is a business advantage. A few months back an I.C.E. Raid apprehended a large group of illegals working in some plant. They detained them and later released them only to return to work with temporary work status and documentation in hands. As long as events such as that take place, it doesn't matter if e-verify is working or not. Just as people like you and I are adamantly opposed to available work going to illegal immigrants, there is an equally sized group of Americans, organizations and employers who have no problem with it. Had parents continued as in my day to raise children with values and strong work ethics, instead of ones with socially dependent entitlement mentalities, this problem wouldn't be so out of control. Nowadays kids expect to go directly from high school into a $30,000 a year career position. Hardly anyone is willing to begin at the bottom. Most all find themselves above it. With the latest figures being a 98% accuracy rate it just works. Add in the fact that the majority of false negative results are due to the actions of the employees themselves (mainly failure to file the paperwork that gives them the right to work in the US) and time is given to correct the problem we have a good system in place! TONY: that study was done in 2007 and was throw out after such things as the rejection of dead people and 6 year olds was found to be the largest percentage of people rejected! We won't hear complaining until US Citizens are denied the jobs because of the flawed system, or even worst put on an immigration hold. It wont' be long till we hear about the first one. They detained them and later released them only to return to work with temporary work status and documentation in hands. As long as events such as that take place, it doesn't matter if e-verify is working or not. Just as people like you and I are adamantly opposed to available work going to illegal immigrants, there is an equally sized group of Americans, organizations and employers who have no problem with it. Had parents continued as in my day to raise children with values and strong work ethics, instead of ones with socially dependent entitlement mentalities, this problem wouldn't be so out of control. Nowadays kids expect to go directly from high school into a $30,000 a year career position. Hardly anyone is willing to begin at the bottom. Most all find themselves above it. Add in the fact that the majority of false negative results are due to the actions of the employees themselves (mainly failure to file the paperwork that gives them the right to work in the US) and time is given to correct the problem we have a good system in place! TONY: that study was done in 2007 and was throw out after such things as the rejection of dead people and 6 year olds was found to be the largest percentage of people rejected! In this country dead people are NOT allowed to work! And 6 year olds will have to prove they can.

If the Durham, North Carolina city council follows through with their plan to accept the controversial Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a legal form of identification. The government of Mexico through its consulates, distributes the cards throughout the United States, mostly to those living in the country illegally. The Durham City Attorney issued the following statement on the matter: "The official purpose of the card is to demonstrate that the holder is a Mexican citizen living outside of Mexico. It includes an official Government of Mexico issued ID number and bears a photograph and address of the Mexican National to whom it is issued." Since the announcement, the city council has received dozens of complaints from citizens, many worried that the cards will lead to illegal aliens voting in elections. Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States.†Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have.†The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. It would also serve as acceptable identification with the police. In September, the staff of the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh came to Charlotte’s Concord High School to sign up thousands of Mexican nationals for Matricula Consular cards and passports. While Mexican officials made the ridiculous claim that they are distributing the documents so that the illegal aliens can safely return home, the real motivation is to assist Charlotte’s large illegal population in obtaining driver’s licenses. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina.†Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents,†and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation†will fulfill that requirement. Another reason for the distribution of the Matricula Consular cards is to help Mexican illegal aliens secure bank accounts, credit cards, and loans in this country. Of course, we all know that on October 26, 2001, President Bush signed the USA Patriot Act. However, I would wager to say that almost no one knows that contained in section 326(b) of the USA Patriot Act is a provision that allows US banks to accept Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a valid form of ID for opening bank accounts. It should be noted that while our President and Congress ordered American banks to recognize these Mexican-issued cards, there is not one Mexican bank which accepts their own government’s Matricula Consular card as a valid form of ID, because the bearer’s identity is basically untraceable. The Durham City Attorney issued the following statement on the matter: "The official purpose of the card is to demonstrate that the holder is a Mexican citizen living outside of Mexico. It includes an official Government of Mexico issued ID number and bears a photograph and address of the Mexican National to whom it is issued." Since the announcement, the city council has received dozens of complaints from citizens, many worried that the cards will lead to illegal aliens voting in elections. Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States.†Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have.†The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. It would also serve as acceptable identification with the police. In September, the staff of the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh came to Charlotte’s Concord High School to sign up thousands of Mexican nationals for Matricula Consular cards and passports. While Mexican officials made the ridiculous claim that they are distributing the documents so that the illegal aliens can safely return home, the real motivation is to assist Charlotte’s large illegal population in obtaining driver’s licenses. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina.†Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents,†and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation†will fulfill that requirement. Another reason for the distribution of the Matricula Consular cards is to help Mexican illegal aliens secure bank accounts, credit cards, and loans in this country. Of course, we all know that on October 26, 2001, President Bush signed the USA Patriot Act. However, I would wager to say that almost no one knows that contained in section 326(b) of the USA Patriot Act is a provision that allows US banks to accept Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a valid form of ID for opening bank accounts. It should be noted that while our President and Congress ordered American banks to recognize these Mexican-issued cards, there is not one Mexican bank which accepts their own government’s Matricula Consular card as a valid form of ID, because the bearer’s identity is basically untraceable. Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges
Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges.?
OK, so I am a rising senior at a high school on the outskirts of North Carolina. I have awesome grades, and I have applied to another of schools. While I'm not Ivy League material, I have some good options. I got accepted into UNC and Duke. But, here's the thing. There is a small college called Wingate University that's near Charlotte. I received a full four year ride there for winning their annual Shakespeare recitation competition, including room and board, books, and a meal card. So, my parents are giving me the choice. I'll get ten grand a year from them no matter what. So, I can spend that ten grand plus take loans out every year and attend UNC. So, by the end of college, I'll be forty thousand dollars in debt. Or, I can just buy a new car with the money and also have some spending cash, but have to go to Wingate. I don't know if this changes anything, but I want to be a lawyer. Also, I want to be close to home, but not too close, and UNC and Wingate are the same distance away from me. Im not sure if I want a big college or a small one. But here is the main decision. Choose the expensive better college, or the free, smaller college.

I would say go to the smaller college. law school is ridiculously expensive, and forty thousand dollars saved is forty thousand dollars you don't have to pile onto law school debt. OR, you could transfer after going to Wingate to save ten thousand - twenty thousand dollars to UNC to have that nice name on your degree and look better in law school admission eyes.

Take the free, see how you like it for you can always transfer after taking some basic courses. Anywhere you go you still need math, English and some pre-law. You will appreciate the free later on.

You'll probably have a much better experience at UNC or Duke than the smaller school, you don't want to be spending 4 years of your life at a place you settled for just because of the money because you will be miserable. It's not worth it, plus almost every has debt from college, it's not uncommon and you'll be able to pay it off. You'll have a much better chance of getting into a good law school from a better college and with law, it's all about where you went. Good luck.

There are a few things to kick around here, Jake.. The conventional wisdom says to go to the larger, big-name school as a likely better springboard for graduate school and your career in law.. those things matter because people believe that they matter, they use the university's screening process as a de facto screening process for you throughout your life.. but, that's primarily a perceptual issue and if the educational resources are similar at both schools, you do have an important determination to make.. The truth is, though, that you need to know some things about yourself, perhaps not yet in evidence.. which environment will you enjoy more and thrive in? Answer, probably both.. remember that the main thing that you have going for you on the path that you're on is that you're the one on that path, and can change direction if need be.. Here's one perspective: put the debt and other financial considerations aside for a moment and consider this a long-term decision.. if the financial aspects were exactly the same, which would you choose? that's where you should strongly consider going.. Have you visited the campuses? if not, do so.. sit in on a class.. talk to the students.. eat the food.. check out the talent, whatever, but get a feeling for the places.. and trust your feelings.. Bottom line, please yourself.. you're the one that's going to have to "walk the walk" of this decision.. But the reality is, that while very different, the choice here isn't between poison and food, it's between two different alternative paths with a bunch of positives going for each one.. Good luck Forrest Gump. Life may be like a box of chocolates, but you do get to choose which ones you actually bite into.. And one more thing. The world isn't just hoping that you figure out this dilemma and many more along your path to becoming a productive member of society and making the world a little better place every day.. it's counting on it.. good luck, Jake.. this may feel like an awkward decision with lots of implications that you'll be living with, and it is, but it's part of one the best times of your life.. how exciting!
