Would it bother my future wife if i have an stiletto heel fetish ?
I'm a vietnamese american guy and i live in the united states in the state of north carolina, i live in the suburbs of charlotte and i worked a corporate law firm building which is a 40 story building. I'm a coporate layer i graduated from law school and i work as a prosecutor so i'm always in the office everyday and in court. However, i have this fetish that i'm afraid my future wife will be bothered, it's an high heel shoe fetish and i don't know if this is common or not. Where i work i see stiletto heels on ladies almost every minute and every second even in the elevator. I have 2 pairs of those shoes at home so sometimes i wear them because of my fetish. My girlfriend is in vietnam and i'm planning on marrying her in the next year and i don't want something like this scaring her away. After i marry her it will be a year later before she comes to america. Do you think my future wife would be bothered by this fetish i have ??? I'm really scared this will ruin my marriage.

I think you should ride into Vietnam on a Harley Davidson emblazoned with stars and stripes with a beatbox playing "Born in the USA" The locals will LOVE it.
2 :
Just explain it to her , otherwise she might think your a cross dresser. Nothing to be ashamed of at all just tell her.
3 :
Before you enter marriage, it's important that your future wife knows about everything that has the potential to affect your marriage. With marriage, it's vital that you open yourself up to your partner because trust is a very big thing. Good luck!
4 :
I don't think I would be that bothered, as long as you kept in inside the house, but, I would hide my expensive shoes away so as not to get ruined!

Which city would be best for a young mother of two young boys relocating.?

Which city would be best for a young mother of two young boys relocating.?
I have been looking at relocating to North Carolina and I narrowed it down to four cities. Wilmington, Cary, Charlotte and Raleigh. I want to move where there are great schools, places where there are alot of activities and recreation for my kids to play. I am 32yrs.old with section 8, seperated and going to school fulltime for cosmetology. In Cleveland there are no jobs, crime rate is sky high and more that fifty percent of the homes are in forclosure. So the ideal place for me is where I can find a job, great school system, and a nice home where I don't have to worry about foreclosure. This will be my first time ever leaving Cleveland, Ohio. Which ever place I choose I want to make sure it's perfect. My kids are 12 and 10yrs. old and they have alot of energy. They enjoy playing football, going swimming, riding bikes, parks, and movies. This is all a big part of my deciding the best place. I chose Wilmington for the beach,Cary for the schools, Raleigh seems like alot and Charlotte.

Should the Mexico Consular Card Be Considered Legal ID For Drivers Licenses Bank Accounts Credit Cards?

Should the Mexico Consular Card Be Considered Legal ID For Drivers Licenses Bank Accounts Credit Cards?
If the Durham, North Carolina city council follows through with their plan to accept the controversial Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a legal form of identification. The government of Mexico through its consulates, distributes the cards throughout the United States, mostly to those living in the country illegally. The Durham City Attorney issued the following statement on the matter: "The official purpose of the card is to demonstrate that the holder is a Mexican citizen living outside of Mexico. It includes an official Government of Mexico issued ID number and bears a photograph and address of the Mexican National to whom it is issued." Since the announcement, the city council has received dozens of complaints from citizens, many worried that the cards will lead to illegal aliens voting in elections. Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States. Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have. The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. It would also serve as acceptable identification with the police. In September, the staff of the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh came to Charlotte’s Concord High School to sign up thousands of Mexican nationals for Matricula Consular cards and passports. While Mexican officials made the ridiculous claim that they are distributing the documents so that the illegal aliens can safely return home, the real motivation is to assist Charlotte’s large illegal population in obtaining driver’s licenses. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina. Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents, and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation will fulfill that requirement. Another reason for the distribution of the Matricula Consular cards is to help Mexican illegal aliens secure bank accounts, credit cards, and loans in this country. Of course, we all know that on October 26, 2001, President Bush signed the USA Patriot Act. However, I would wager to say that almost no one knows that contained in section 326(b) of the USA Patriot Act is a provision that allows US banks to accept Mexican Matricula Consular cards as a valid form of ID for opening bank accounts. It should be noted that while our President and Congress ordered American banks to recognize these Mexican-issued cards, there is not one Mexican bank which accepts their own government’s Matricula Consular card as a valid form of ID, because the bearer’s identity is basically untraceable. So, beware North Carolina…if the national pattern holds true--in the coming months you can expect to see an increase in DUI accidents thanks to the pending driver’s license distribution, not to mention illegal aliens voting in future elections…courtesy of Mexico. http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/north-carolina-town-now-plans-to-accept-mexican-ids

Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges.?

Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges.?
OK, so I am a rising senior at a high school on the outskirts of North Carolina. I have awesome grades, and I have applied to another of schools. While I'm not Ivy League material, I have some good options. I got accepted into UNC and Duke. But, here's the thing. There is a small college called Wingate University that's near Charlotte. I received a full four year ride there for winning their annual Shakespeare recitation competition, including room and board, books, and a meal card. So, my parents are giving me the choice. I'll get ten grand a year from them no matter what. So, I can spend that ten grand plus take loans out every year and attend UNC. So, by the end of college, I'll be forty thousand dollars in debt. Or, I can just buy a new car with the money and also have some spending cash, but have to go to Wingate. I don't know if this changes anything, but I want to be a lawyer. Also, I want to be close to home, but not too close, and UNC and Wingate are the same distance away from me. Im not sure if I want a big college or a small one. But here is the main decision. Choose the expensive better college, or the free, smaller college.

I would say go to the smaller college. law school is ridiculously expensive, and forty thousand dollars saved is forty thousand dollars you don't have to pile onto law school debt. OR, you could transfer after going to Wingate to save ten thousand - twenty thousand dollars to UNC to have that nice name on your degree and look better in law school admission eyes.
2 :
Take the free, see how you like it for you can always transfer after taking some basic courses. Anywhere you go you still need math, English and some pre-law. You will appreciate the free later on.
3 :
You'll probably have a much better experience at UNC or Duke than the smaller school, you don't want to be spending 4 years of your life at a place you settled for just because of the money because you will be miserable. It's not worth it, plus almost every has debt from college, it's not uncommon and you'll be able to pay it off. You'll have a much better chance of getting into a good law school from a better college and with law, it's all about where you went. Good luck.

There are a few things to kick around here, Jake.. The conventional wisdom says to go to the larger, big-name school as a likely better springboard for graduate school and your career in law.. those things matter because people believe that they matter, they use the university's screening process as a de facto screening process for you throughout your life.. but, that's primarily a perceptual issue and if the educational resources are similar at both schools, you do have an important determination to make.. The truth is, though, that you need to know some things about yourself, perhaps not yet in evidence.. which environment will you enjoy more and thrive in? Answer, probably both.. remember that the main thing that you have going for you on the path that you're on is that you're the one on that path, and can change direction if need be.. Here's one perspective: put the debt and other financial considerations aside for a moment and consider this a long-term decision.. if the financial aspects were exactly the same, which would you choose? that's where you should strongly consider going.. Have you visited the campuses? if not, do so.. sit in on a class.. talk to the students.. eat the food.. check out the talent, whatever, but get a feeling for the places.. and trust your feelings.. Bottom line, please yourself.. you're the one that's going to have to "walk the walk" of this decision.. But the reality is, that while very different, the choice here isn't between poison and food, it's between two different alternative paths with a bunch of positives going for each one.. Good luck Forrest Gump. Life may be like a box of chocolates, but you do get to choose which ones you actually bite into.. And one more thing. The world isn't just hoping that you figure out this dilemma and many more along your path to becoming a productive member of society and making the world a little better place every day.. it's counting on it.. good luck, Jake.. this may feel like an awkward decision with lots of implications that you'll be living with, and it is, but it's part of one the best times of your life.. how exciting!

It's too late to apply for next year genius. Okay, that resume is excessively long and it looks like you did it all for college acceptance. Colleges don't like that. I don't reccomend putting it all on your application, because quite honestly, it doesn't say anything unique about you. It shows that you're just another kid who wants to pack their resume with things that they think colleges will like (which colleges actually hate.) Just saying.

What do you think Hispanics students seen sliding N.C. schools see trouble with dropout and pregnancy rates?

What do you think Hispanics students seen sliding N.C. schools see trouble with dropout and pregnancy rates?
read more at http://www.charlotte.com/local/story/379895.html The debate over immigration often dwells on keeping illegal immigrants from slipping into the country. But when it comes to Hispanic youths who are already here, an opposite concern arises -- too many are slipping away. Hispanic youths -- some born here, some who entered the country illegally but are growing up here -- are at increasing risk of drifting into self-destructive and criminal behavior as they try to find their place in U.S. culture, according to those who have studied trends among Hispanic immigrants. In North Carolina, a host of indicators show that many immigrant teens are not succeeding: • Dropout rates for Hispanic students are higher than for any other group in the state. In the 2005-06 school year, nearly 9 percent of Hispanic high school students dropped out, compared with less than 4.5 percent of white students. • More than half of North Carolina's Hispanic girls are expected to be pregnant before their 20th birthdays. • A recent study of nearly 300 Hispanic immigrant teens in North Carolina, done by the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, sketched a picture of a population with emotional scars, uneducated parents and the pervasive feeling that they are not accepted by Americans. More than 40 percent said they had faced ethnic discrimination, most frequently by their classmates. Sixty-five percent of the teens agreed that "Americans generally feel superior to foreigners." Only 5 percent said they received any counseling. A national survey by New York University professor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, tracked immigrant teens for five years. At the end, half were doing worse in school than when the study began.

I think the greatest travesty in all of this illegal immigration issue is the fact that the president, certain members of Congress, judges, certain governors, and most CEOs have NO regard for the US immigration laws. The single most individual who bares most of the responsibility is the current person occupying the White House. He alone has done more to prevent enforcement of the immigration laws than anyone in US history. It was he who called the Minutemen 'vigilantes'. I feel betrayed when someone calls a patriotic group such a cheap word. The Minutemen volunteered to do the job that you ,Mr. President, prohibited the Border Patrol in doing their job. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. I think history will record your terms as the worst in US history. I know I already have. Personally I would not have a problem if Congress did the right thing and impeached Mr. Bush for dereliction of duties on not protecting the borders and a TOTAL failure on enforcing the immigration laws. Furthermore, I would not have a problem if HE was deported after impeachment. Mr. President, it sure would have been nice if you had made your goals public before you became president instead of having them kept secret and then trying to shove them down our legal throats after the fact.

Are more employers using e-verify? Does this mean it is working?

Are more employers using e-verify? Does this mean it is working?
More employers turning to the federal program they hope will help them avoid hiring illegal immigrants. By Franco Ordoñez fordonez@charlotteobserver.com Posted: Wednesday, May. 13, 2009 Mandi Bickes of ResourceMFG interviews a client. The company has enrolled in E-Verify. T. ORTEGA GAINES – OGAINES@CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.COM More Information This Land: Which companies are checking? A worn red, white and blue sign taped to the front door of ResourceMFG warns potential hires that the recruiter uses a federal program to root out illegal immigrants. Branch manager Tamara Mantooth put the sign up about two months ago when she noticed that nearly half the company's applicants presented questionable IDs. “It was interesting,” she said. “After we put the sign up, some people would come up to the door, look at the sign and then turn away.” Her company is one of a growing number in North Carolina and across the country enrolling in E-Verify, a once-obscure program run by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration. Critics say it's a flawed and expensive program that doesn't deter illegal immigration. But as the Obama administration warns that it will focus on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, N.C. firms are choosing the free and voluntary program in record numbers. In the past two years, the number of enrolled N.C. companies has increased by more than 700percent to 2,567. Local participants include Bank of America, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and the Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge. Last year, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, made more than 6,000 workplace arrests; 135 were employers and managers. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a Senate hearing last week that ICE can do better. “Active enforcement of our immigration laws must address not just the illegal workers themselves,” she said, “but also the employers who hire illegal labor and fuel the phenomenon of illegal immigration into the United States.” Worried about raids Gilberto Bergman, president of Bergman Brothers Staffing of Charlotte, says companies can no longer claim they didn't know they hired workers using fake IDs. He said companies are using E-Verify to protect themselves in the event of raids or investigations. Bergman cited an October raid of an N.C.-based House of Raeford Farms plant in Greenville, S.C. More than 300 workers were detained. The plant manager, the human resource manager and about a dozen supervisors were arrested on immigration charges.“When you actually hear that they're going to go ahead and prosecute, take to court the people who actually did the hiring, that's a big concern for HR people,” he said. “Employers are paying a lot more attention to who they are hiring, especially here in the Carolinas,” A 2006 Observer investigation found illegal immigrants working for major N.C. road-building companies using Social Security numbers that were fake, stolen or belonging to dead people. Using payroll records from contractors, including Rea Contracting of Charlotte, the newspaper found questionable Social Security numbers for a third of 85 workers. Rea is now using E-Verify, according to ICE. Advocates, critics E-Verify was first tested in 1997 so employers could compare employment forms to Social Security and immigration records. Participation nationally has been expanding at a rate of about 1,000 new employers a week, Napolitano said. More than 122,000 employers are enrolled, nearly five times more than in 2007. Last year, President Bush signed an order requiring companies that do business with the federal government to use E-Verify. South Carolina, Arizona and Mississippi require all employers to use E-Verify, according to the National Immigration Law Center. North Carolina passed a law in 2006 requiring that all state employees, including those at universities, be vetted by E-Verify. Opponents claim the program does not effectively reduce illegal immigrants. The Immigration Policy Center, a pro-immigrant research group, says E-Verify ensnares American job seekers in database errors, adds to employers' costs and “does not actually prevent undocumented immigrants from getting jobs.” The Congressional Budget Office estimated that expanding the federal verification program could cost $17billion over the next 10 years. But Napolitano endorses E-Verify, saying ICE has fixed many of its shortcomings. Mantooth said using the program is a business advantage. Companies don't want to risk paying for expensive training only to find out the worker is in the country illegally. “I don't understand why anyone would not take advantage of this,” she said. “We don't want a reputation as a company that would place workers who were not eligible to work in the United States.” http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/721012.html _________________

NO! the employers of coarse have cover their butts now that Obama announced that he wants to crack down on employers. We won't hear complaining until US Citizens are denied the jobs because of the flawed system, or even worst put on an immigration hold. It wont' be long till we hear about the first one. Employers are using it, but what has been fixed since the last standard test? http://washingtontechnology.com/articles/2007/11/26/report-everify-database-fails-standard-test.aspx Report: E-verify database fails standard test The E-Verify program uses a database that does not meet accuracy standards set by Congress, according to a new report from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. "Most importantly, the database used for verification is still not sufficiently up to date to meet the [Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996] requirement for accurate verification, especially for naturalized citizens," the report said.

A few months back an I.C.E. Raid apprehended a large group of illegals working in some plant. They detained them and later released them only to return to work with temporary work status and documentation in hands. As long as events such as that take place, it doesn't matter if e-verify is working or not. Just as people like you and I are adamantly opposed to available work going to illegal immigrants, there is an equally sized group of Americans, organizations and employers who have no problem with it. Had parents continued as in my day to raise children with values and strong work ethics, instead of ones with socially dependent entitlement mentalities, this problem wouldn't be so out of control. Nowadays kids expect to go directly from high school into a $30,000 a year career position. Hardly anyone is willing to begin at the bottom. Most all find themselves above it. The provided links outline there's as much a problem with opposing views as there is a problem with illegal immigration. http://www.wyff4.com/news/17641906/detai... http://neighbors.denverpost.com/viewtopi...

Pro lawbreakers don't like the system because it works. The program has a 96% accuracy rate.Several local employers said E-Verify was quick and efficient. Stronghold Engineering, a government contractor in Riverside that does construction projects for the Defense Department, started using E-Verify about a year ago to check the employment status of new hires. "You always want to make sure you are hiring someone who is authorized to work in the United States," said human resources manager Angela Rayfield. "This program is very user-friendly." Employment service AppleOne Inc., which places workers at a variety of businesses, started using E-Verify at all of its California branches in 2007. Human resources manager Linda Madigan said it shifted the burden of validating documents from the company to the government. "The E-Verify program is one of the best things we did," Madigan said. "The [branches] don't have to look at the documents anymore and decide if it looks right or not." At AppleOne's downtown Los Angeles branch on a recent day, office coordinator Mayela Solorio ran an applicant's personal information through the system and within seconds received a response from the government: "Employment Authorized." "He's good to go," she said.
7 :
With the latest figures being a 98% accuracy rate it just works. Add in the fact that the majority of false negative results are due to the actions of the employees themselves (mainly failure to file the paperwork that gives them the right to work in the US) and time is given to correct the problem we have a good system in place!

“We don't want a reputation as a company that would place workers who were not eligible to work in the United States.” http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/721012.html _________________

this is great news. my uncle and his family live in N.C he sid it was imposable to find a job because of the illegals. i was going to move there until he told me this. and becareful what you type. people are reporting again.

NO! the employers of coarse have cover their butts now that Obama announced that he wants to crack down on employers.

I have not researched this in detail but from the limited literature I have read, it seems to be working or at least in the right direction.

TONY: that study was done in 2007 and was throw out after such things as the rejection of dead people and 6 year olds was found to be the largest percentage of people rejected! In this country dead people are NOT allowed to work! And 6 year olds will have to prove they can.

Mitch Kokai with the John Locke Foundation told WTDV: “It really doesn't tell you anything about the legal or illegal status of the person being in the United States.” Kokai continued: “That could be the path that leads from this card to the official document - to being able to vote - and I think for voter integrity that's a concern a lot of folks should have.” The move will make Durham the only city in the nation to accept the cards for conducting business with city agencies. According to the NCDOT website, the North Carolina DMV accepts “Matricula Consular cards issued by the Mexican consulate FOR North Carolina.” Also needed for a license is “Proof of Identity Documents,” and any “Valid, unexpired Passport from any nation” will fulfill that requirement.

Yes, but only in Mexico.
2 :
First of all, a Matricula Consular card is tantamont to holding a huge sign over your head and saying "I am an illegal alien. What are you gonna do about it?". What the hell is wrong with these stupid liberals. We should be forcing them to breed elsewhere, not making it easier to set up and swarm an area

Need some SERIOUS help on picking between colleges

Good luck.
4 :

School Father-Son Team Set Watermelon Records Chinese Sex Toys Confiscated in Vietnam Officials say locals swamped by illegals Most at hearing say feds ignore immigration By Tim Whitmire Associated Press Gastonia | A federal effort to enlist local law enforcement officers to help identify and deport criminal illegal immigrants is a mere stopgap in the face of a much bigger problem, officials told a congressional panel Friday. "I and many others strongly disagree with President Bush's policy, or lack of, on illegal immigration," Mecklenburg County Sheriff Jim Pendergraph told four House members at a hearing on empowering local law enforcement to combat illegal immigration. "The Congress of the United States has let us down by the lack of action on the illegal immigration issue for decades," Pendergraph told the panel that included North Carolina Republican Reps. Virginia Foxx, Patrick McHenry and Sue Myrick. Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., chairman of the subcommittee of the House Committee on Government Reform, also attended the hearing at Myrick's Gastonia office. Pendergraph's department last winter signed a memorandum of understanding with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agreement allowed 12 deputies to be trained to screen the immigration status of people arrested in Mecklenburg, home to North Carolina's largest city, Charlotte. The 287(g) program, as it is known, gives local officers access to ICE's database of fingerprints and photographs, which Pendergraph and others say is the only reliable way to identify the immigration status of an arrested person. Since screening began May 1, Pendergraph said, his department has found that most of the immigrants who pass through his jail are here illegally. "So many illegal immigrant criminals have been identified through my 287(g) program, it is causing me a jail space problem," Pendergraph said. Pendergraph's department is one of only seven departments in five states with such agreements and access to ICE's database. Gaston County Sheriff Alan Cloninger told the panel his department received approval Thursday to join the program, but Pendergraph said many other law enforcement leaders who have tried repeatedly to participate in it tell him they have been turned down or ignored. An estimated 405,000 illegal immigrants live in North Carolina, McHenry said. Michael Lands, district attorney for Gaston County, said the federal government doesn't have enough agents to handle an illegal immigrant population of that size. "Ultimately, and I mean no disrespect, this is a federal government problem that you need to address," he told the panel. The government's approach to illegal immigrants, Lands said, has been "to wait until they commit a state crime and then determine if it's serious enough to deport them." Souder responded that federal, state and local governments will have to cooperate to improve the system. "Somehow we've got to figure out how to do this together," he said. The mother of a Gaston County teacher who died in a July 2005 hit-and-run crash in Brunswick County caused by an illegal immigrant pleaded with the panel for a solution. Scott Gardner was on vacation with his family when their car was struck by a truck driven by Ramiro Gallegos, who was intoxicated and had a history of drunken driving arrests. Wife Tina Gardner remains in a vegetative state at a nursing home, her mother-in-law Emily Moose said Friday. The couple's two young children are effectively orphaned. "I believe the cost of human life is too high to pay for cheap labor," Moose said, near tears. Gallegos was sentenced earlier this year to 14 to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. "If you break the law to get here, you're not going to respect the law once you're here," McHenry said. That comment, plus a statement by Moose that "millions" of lives have been lost to illegal immigration and a complaint by Foxx that the media obsesses about the number of U.S. deaths in Iraq while saying little "about the people being killed by illegal immigrants every day," appeared to motivate Lands to interject. "I think it needs to be said - and you all know - illegals aren't the only ones out there committing crime," he said. "There's plenty of crime by American-born citizens."

Yes, all people commit crimes. But people who are legal members of a society with a trail of records that help identify them tend to get caught when they do so they're less likely to try. And illeagal aliens committed a crime when they remained in the US illeagally, all of them wheather they shoot someone or rob someone or work hard and support a family, they're all in violation of the law.

Am I making a mistake leaving one college after 2 years, then trying next year for a better school?

Am I making a mistake leaving one college after 2 years, then trying next year for a better school?
I go to Johnson and Wales in charlotte right now, its horrible and I hate everything about it, I know if I graduate Im never gonna get a good job and Ill be stuck in that satanic institution Bank Of America in this hell hole of North Carolina, and I'm constantly embarassed whenever someone asks me where I go to college, Ive actually started to lie and say I go to a local community college So Im about to finish my 2nd year with a 3.25 GPA and an Associates Degree in accounting, they don't off calculus and I failed the course at CPCC (Community College) so I can't transfer in next year, I plan to use next year to retake Calculus and some other courses and then try to transfer into NC State as a junior in 2009-2010. to get my bachelors in accounting. am I making a mistake. I would want more then anything to go to NC state and see what a real college is like, I absolutely hate Johnson and Wales. but I don't know what i'm gonna do If I don't get into state my dad is giving me this one year provided I pay for all my CC courses myself, and If I don't get back into a 4 year university then I'm out of the house. Can I really get into state with the Associates in Accounting from Johnson and Wales (They are accredited) and some other courses from a Community College (Im only gonna take enough to be a full time student and all of them will be for transferring into NC STATE). please help me

I say go for it. If you don't apply, you definitely won't get it :) Best of luck!!!!!
2 :
Your associates from J&W is not useless. You can use it to transfer to a strong university, and your GPA is good. But you must apply to more than just NC State. I do not think you're making a mistake by retaking calculus, and by taking any other classes required by NC State for transfer students. I do not think you're making a mistake by finishing your associates at J&W, and then transferring to a different, stronger college to get your bachelors. In fact, once you have your bachelors, no one will care where you got your associates (you can even leave it off your resume if you want to.) However, you must apply to more colleges than just NC State. You must have some backups that you like. I want you to go to a good school in a year, but there is no guarantee that it'll be NC State. Have some backups. NC State is an extremely competitive college to get into. They let in less than half of the transfer applicants who apply. The average GPA of its admitted students is higher than your current GPA. I believe that you should apply, no question, but you must have some back up schools. When you do apply to schools, I recommend you follow this pattern: - NC State and, if you want, one other somewhat reach school - A couple schools that fit your GPA quite well - A couple schools where your GPA makes you pretty darn sure you'd get in - One super back up school, which you really, really think you'll get into. And make *all* those schools be academically respectable colleges that fit that "real college" criteria you've set. An aside: when you retake calculus, ask for tutoring immediately. Do not wait until you're having trouble - you already know you've failed this course once. Ask for tutoring in the first week or so. The cc will have a tutoring center, or ask your academic advisor to help hook you up with a tutor.

I currently live in Charlotte and have been here for 2 years. It is a very supportive community with a lot to tap into. As far as housing, it really depends on how much money you want to spend. Most apartments 2-3 bedroom are $700-$1200 but everything is reasonable and you will find more than you want. The north, university city are and south are know as the safest areas but Charlotte is just like any other big city with less crime. I don't use the public transportation system but know people that do and see them all the time. They are located in most areas and the city is working on a light rail system. There are plenty of money making opportunities as well.
3 :
Im considering a move there also. I got some feed back by posting similar questions on Craigslist.com for Charlotte. Rent seems to be higher than where I live in FL. It seems that you can purchase a home for much cheaper than what they are going for in my area. Go to http://www.carolinahome.com/ and look at the real estate market. They do have a light rail system or is scheduled to be built, not sure of the areas. There are different areas for different people, On craigslist charlotte, post what you are looking for and see what kind of responses you get. Good luck

Neither. If both are bachelors degrees, they weigh the same. If you are asking which university would get you the most attention, then it really depends on you. Regardless of what university you attend, what you get out of the education and the degree ultimately depends on you. If you got your degree at one university and only went to and from class and added nothing to the university while someone else was involved in student government and started a recycling program for the university, then an employeer would look at the two of you very differently. Hope that helps!

Here are the options- 1) North Carolina-Charlotte, Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) 2) Oklahoma-OK City, Tulsa area 3) Rhode Island-Providence area 4) Massachusetts-Boston area I know these are some pretty extreme areas but I'm looking @ graduate schools/future home locations in the areas. I'm a pretty laid-back, reserved person so this is one reason why... edit: I've actually visited OK once (Tulsa) & it was very nice (people & area were pretty). There are bigots everywhere...wow, ignorance is bliss huh?

I am from NYC I visited Charlotte (Mecklenburg) and I loved it. Is it a good place to raise a family?
I was in Charlotte, NC (Mecklenburg) for a week and I loved it. The homes were in sub communities at a reasonable price. In comparison to NYC the pace was much slower and the people just seem genuine. I work in the financial services industry and I feel confidant that finding a job in my field would not be a problem. My wife is in the process of finishing her LPN program. However, before making any hasty moves I would like to know what am I to expect if I decide to move there. After all I have three kids (ages 5, 8, 10) and would like some feed back on how are the schools in Mecklenburg? What area would be a good place to live? How are the race relations (I am Haitian-American)? And what are the drawbacks of leaving a city like New York to go to North Carolina? Thanks for your response!

As a North Carolina native, I can tell you that your first impression was correct. Charlotte is a great town. There is another city nearby that I would suggest, however. Cary, NC. Cary ranks 5th on Money Magazine's 10 best cities in The USA.

I like the are myself and I use to live in Newton,NC that's 50 miles away from Charlotte and from all I know, have seen and heard, Charlotte area is good place to find work and to raise a family...like many Southern towns racial problems do arise just like in other big cities. The city doesn't rank well in the crime area(http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/snapshots/PL3712000.html) --- high crime record. The city ranked Number 5. of the best places to live isn't too far away... the city of Cary,NC scored very well as a great place to live, work, raise family and has nice schools too.

You could get the stats about anything you want to know about any city in the world online and base your move on that information but to know first-hand from the people who actually live(d) in the area would probably be worth much more to you in the end. Like any other place you choose to investigate, you will find each has its good and bad points. You will find that when you are in NC visiting, what you see REALLY is what you get. We aren't a people who "pretend" too much about anything. When we tell you and your family to "come see us sometime", we really mean it (and expect it). People in NC generally are genuinely accepting of others no matter where they are from or what their cultures may be. Once you are moved into the area, don't be surprised if you are invited to a backyard BBQ or a pig-picking. NC moves at a slower pace than NYC but it's not in a bad way. We don't rush through this life because most of us have had to go through hardships and have learned to appreciate life more. We take the time to smell the flowers, speak to and get to know the people around us, life is way too short to speed through it and not enjoy God's wonders around us. In the state you can find almost anything you would like to do within just a few hours driving. I always liked being within 4 hours or less from the beaches or the mountains. I am originally from Winston Salem, NC. I moved away about 3 years ago to a very small town in TN and am planning to be back in NC within the next 2 years. The old saying "there's no place like home" rings true with me. I miss the people, the places and everything about NC. I left but until then, I took it all for granted. It is where my heart is and will always be

Latino community activists Everyone illegal has a right to college education even the bible says as much?

Latino community activists Everyone illegal has a right to college education even the bible says as much?
RALEIGH A public hearing Friday on North Carolina community colleges' decision to admit illegal immigrants turned into a rally for immigrant rights. A crowd of Latino students - along with educators, activists and civic and religious leaders - filled the auditorium at the State Library, many waving signs and wearing stickers supporting access to higher education for illegal immigrants. More than 50 gave speeches, invoking the Bible, the Declaration of Independence and the language of the U.S. civil rights movement. Only six people spoke against the State Board of Community Colleges' September decision to admit illegal immigrants at all 58 campuses - a stark reversal in a debate often dominated by opponents of illegal immigration. "Everyone has a right to an education," said Gloria Garcia of Fuquay-Varina, a Wake Tech student. "It does not matter what race you are or whether you are documented or not." Several leaders of Charlotte's Latino community travelled to Raleigh for the hearing. Ruben Campillo, who heads the state's chapter of Reform Immigration for America, said he was encouraged by what he described as "overwhelming support" in favor of the policy. "We need to address (immigration) at the federal level," said Campillo, based in Charlotte, "but in the meantime, we need to continue to give all students the opportunity to pursue an education." Opponents argued that allowing illegal immigrants into community colleges amounted to a reward for breaking the law. They said illegal immigrants would compete with U.S. citizens in a time of high unemployment. "Allowing illegal aliens to enroll in our colleges when we have 10 percent unemployment really speaks of incompetence," said Ron Woodard of Cary, head of the immigration enforcement advocacy group N.C. Listen. The hearing was a legal requirement as the community college board moves toward adopting a permanent rule. System officials said board members will get a full transcript of the two-and-a-half hour hearing and will consider the comments before finalizing the rule next year. They said the board still has the power to tweak or reverse the rule, which was agreed to this fall after nearly two years of study and intense controversy. It is expected to take effect next school year, lifting a ban that has kept undocumented students out of degree programs since May 2008. The proposed rule admits illegal immigrants under strict requirements. They must pay out-of-state tuition, about $7,700 a year. They also will get last priority for classes. Many speakers Friday said immigrant students, many of whom were brought to this country as children and grew up in North Carolina, should be treated as in-state residents. For legal residents, community colleges grant in-state tuition after they have lived in North Carolina for one year. "How ridiculous to say people who have been here for many years should pay out-of-state tuition," said James Leutze, who was chancellor of UNC Wilmington until 2001. William Gheen, head of the Raleigh group Americans for Legal Immigration, which argues for strict immigration enforcement, said the majority was not represented at the hearing. He said most who oppose the decision could not come on a workday. "This entire meeting is a sham," Gheen said. "It is not a convenient time for the hard workers and the taxpayers of North Carolina." Immigrant advocates said they mobilized their supporters to come en masse and arrive early to sign up for speaking slots, making sure that their voices were heard first. "We're tired of a small group dominating," said Melinda Wiggins, a farm worker advocate. "The majority of people really do support access to education for all people." Some speakers cried as they talked of undocumented students who would be unable to afford out-of-state tuition. Many comments were greeted with applause and, in the case of state NAACP President William Barber, a standing ovation. Barber compared the plight of immigrant students to the biblical story of Joseph and Mary, who were refused a room at the inn while awaiting the birth of Jesus. "Instead of saying no room for Hispanic children," Barber intoned, "we would be saying no limits." http://www.charlotteobserver.com/breaking/story/1133542.html Doesn't the Bible also say thy shall not steal ? Thy shall obey the laws of the country they are in ? Doesn't the Bible say not to have kids out of of wedlock ? Why do these Latino community activists select what part of the Bible can be used today and which part is unjust and as such you do not have to comply with those parts of Bible if it causes you hardship or must obey the laws ? Where can I buy this new Bible at ? Why are these students not over in Mexico shouting Everyone has a right to college education even the bible says as much ?

If you want more people to get educated.. then yes..

Be prepared for the backlash you are about to receive. You will be amazed at the amount of anger in the responses to come. I could not agree with you more and I applaud you for stepping out and stating your case. I used to be very anti-immigration until I became educated to the real plight of undocumented workers. I now do everything I can to speak and and support these victims. For those who don't see the human element behind this (those who don't see that everyone deserves the right to an education) there is a financial aspect to consider. According to the US Census Bureau, Latinos will make up 30% of the US population by 2050, in California it it more dramatic; Latinos are projected to make up 54% of California's total population. Why does this matter to you? An educated population generally earns higher income and contributes more money to the economy. On the flip side, undereducated populations are more prone to crime and tend to depend on social services (welfare, foodstamps, etc) which costs the government (and taxpayers a lot of money). So it is in all of our best interest to make education available and accessible to everyone, equally. I would love to discuss this issue with you in detail. I have become involved with clubs that support AB 540 students in California who struggle with the issues you discussed. Why can't the Mexicans understand America is broke. There is no more money left. So we should tell families with young kids sorry we cannot help you have food this week, but the illegal Mexican gets sacks of food from the church every week. What is the NAACP doing helping Mexicans, is the NAACP cause all fixed and they have so much free time on their hands.I thought the NAACP were suppose to be helping their own race with all their problems going on today, but they find time to not be working on helping their people, but find illegal Mexicans to be their new cause . La Raza does not even help other races .That's why La Raza says for the race everything-those outside the race nothing

Until we placed armed security forces at the borders to protect the country from the illegals entering to become criminals, nothing will get better. There's a proper legal way to enter, but illegals go around that. Enter. And don't make things better. Many of them demand we speak their language, offer options to cater to them, kiss their asses. The border patrol has been prevented from stopping them by liberals. Eventually the US will implode due to the weak people who comprise "the mob" getting everything they wanted despite whether it was good for the country or not. Then, when the US is as poor as Mexico, will people finally ask "Should we have done something?". It will be too late, but some will actually wake up to their insanity. Between now and then I would expect a race war to erupt along border states.

I think they should be allowed to attend community colleges, or any college they want to. Here in NC, they can attend college, but have to pay out of pocket 5 times the out of state tuition rate. Bloody expensive. If they can do that, what difference does it make? It isn't like they are using Pell grants, or scholarships that American citizens could have gotten!!!! Plus when they receive their education it is NOT like they will be competing with American citizens for those jobs. They are illegal and can NOT produce the evidence needed to prove they have the right to work in the US that would match the name on their college degree. So why are people getting their panties in a knot? Are American that insecure about their own educations that they fear a Mexican getting a degree, then them not being able to put it to good use in the US? Maybe if they get good educations here, they will return to their country and try and improve things. Maybe, just maybe, in enough time we will see a trickle down effect and more illegals with US college educations making a difference in their own countries, thus turning the illegal immigration tide here in the US. Has anyone stopped to think how this could turn out to be a positive thing for the US? I seriously doubt it! ~~Donna~~
