Can I get into these schools?

Can I get into these schools?
I'm currently a junior taking a mix of AP and regular courses in Virginia. I volunteer for ASPCA and Reins of Life. I am an active participant in French Club and my schools Pep Club. I play lacrosse and am captain of my travel softball team. I also am going to be photography editor for yearbook next year. I currently have a 3.4 gpa which I am going to raise. My SAT scores were C-600 W-590 M-620. I am going to retake them and am enrolled in a Kaplan SAT prep course which should hopefully help. What are my chances of getting into: University of South Carolina University of Tennessee North Carolina State University of North Carolina Wilmington University of North Carolina Charlotte Appalachian State University Ohio State University Coastal Carolina East Carolina Thanks! I know that there are websites such as princetonreview.com and such but they aren't always accurate in terms of the statitics they give, so I was just wondering what everyones personal opinions were. Some people are able to tell me my chances by experiences then what princetonreview has to offer.

Which state would you move to?

Which state would you move to?
If you had the choice...& for what reason? Here are the options- 1) North Carolina-Charlotte, Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) 2) Oklahoma-OK City, Tulsa area 3) Rhode Island-Providence area 4) Massachusetts-Boston area I know these are some pretty extreme areas but I'm looking @ graduate schools/future home locations in the areas. I'm a pretty laid-back, reserved person so this is one reason why...

1) i would not move to north carolina because the living expenses are pretty high. 2) seems like a pretty nice place to be. 3) dont know alot about it. 4) awesome if you like snow. my friend is from there and she loves it there. im pretty sure there are some good schools tehre.
2 :
Depends on what you want. If I were picking, I would take the Triangle. Still a low cost of living (unlike the Northeast), but also becoming a best-of-both-worlds kind of place with Duke, UNC, and Wake Forest all in that area.
3 :
1 or 2 if you are basing your decision on your personality
4 :
Definitely North Carolina Triangle areas. The reasons are: 1. Best all year around climate than Tulsa, Providence, and Boston area. 2. And most importantly, the employment rate in Triange area is very very low. According to housing market report, as of Sept 2008, the housing price in Raleigh not only did not drop an average(-15%) like other cities in the whole USA, but it(Raleigh) rose ~3% in housing price

Anybody know of any Badminton organizations?
I'm 15, and I love to play badminton, but my high school does not offer it as a sport. Does anybody know of any badminton tournaments or organizations that I can join in North Carolina. P.S.It would be preferable if they were in the Triad Area-ish or in Charlotte.

month-to-month leases?

month-to-month leases?
I am looking for the names of any known landlords in the tennessee (nashville or memphis) or north carolina (charlotte or durham) or texas (dallas or killeen) areas who rent HOUSES on month-to-month basis. I am looking to relocate, and would like to have a house waiting for me, but I want the option of moving out once I find a house to purchase. I am open to moving anywhere south, so leads to landlords in ms, la, ga, etc would be equally helpful. I'm still in brainstorming phase, but want to be ready to move by the time school lets out. I have a decent career, so employment is not a problem. I just need a little help with the house-hunt. Thanks to anyone able to help!

What can I say? Your GPA is pretty low, but you have a lot of extra curricular activities to make up for it. Study hard for your next SAT test, and make sure when you're applying you have a really good essay stating why you want to go to whatever colleges you're applying to. I think you have a chance of getting into at least some of your choices. I'm sure wherever you end up will be the right place for you and you'll be happy.

you have a good chance of getting into all those schools especially ECU and UNCC good luck!
2 :
I assume you're applying next year, since the deadlines for those schools have passed? That gives you plenty of time to really figure some things out that will really help you getting accepted. You definitely have a chance, especially at ECU and UNCC. Concerning the extracurricular activities: Honestly, you don't have to be an officer in anything, but it helps to be really dedicated to something for the long-term, like Band or ROTC, which technically aren't ECs, but look good, especially if you plan on continuing them in college. Concerning your SAT scores: They're not bad at all, your critical reading is on the high end of most University medians, and your math and writing are both in the mid-range of the median scores. But, you may want to register to take it again, especially if those were only your first-time scores, because many people's scores go up after the first test because they're more familiar with what they have to do. Concerning your GPA: It's not a bad GPA at all, in fact , it's really quite good, but speaking from a competitive stand point, the numbers are a little low for State and Appalachian. NC State's average high school GPA is 4.2, because what classes you take are very important to your admission, and they like AP classes. ASU's is a little lower at 3.9, but you're still a on the low side. Now keep in mind, those are the average HS GPAs, so there are GPAs both lower and high admitted into both schools, so it's not a deal-breaker, but it may be something to keep in mind. ECU and UNCC are 3.5 and 3.6 respectively, so you are competitive in both of those admissions pools. So overall, you definitely have a chance, but you chances are higher at ECU and UNCC. If you're a junior, I suggest maybe picking up an AP class, which will raise your GPA massively if you do well. It wouldn't hurt to take the SAT again, just to see if your scores improve. Remember, the colleges only get the scores you send to them. I also suggest that before you start applying, you sit down and write down all of your major achievements and what not: any jobs you've had, community service hours, if you're involved in church you can write that down, and awards you're earned, and other things along those lines. I guarantee you that your process will go a lot smoother, because you will be asked to list those on your applications, so if you have them pre-listed, you won't have to think about them every time you go to apply. Hope this helped, best of luck :)

I want to go to college but only have a GED?

I want to go to college but only have a GED?
I dropped out of highschool in 11th grade (severe emotional problems due to family trouble) I worked menial jobs for a few years and lived with my girlfriend. I wasted allot of time on pipe dreams I had. I went back to get my GED so I can attend massage therapy school. at some point I would really love to attend UNCC (university of north carolina charlotte) but I'm not sure if a university will accept someone with just a GED I don't know how I could go about getting the missing high school credits. Facts: I scored very high on my SAT I have a very high IQ On my GED test I had perfect scores (except on the essay, which my score was still above average) Question: how can I get back in school and quit wasting my life :( I am 26 years old, a delivery driver, I live on my own and I feel like a loser who is going nowhere... help!! any ideas? please!

just grab an application to any college. you have a bright future!
2 :
your GED is as good as a diploma. if would start out with a small school and get an associates degree and then transfer to a four year late. the first 2 years of school are all classes you have to take like english-math etc. and it is easier to take them in smaller classes and less money spent per credit hour also.
3 :
Let's review your situation, shall we? "I am 26 years old, a delivery driver, I live on my own and I feel like a loser who is going nowhere." The fact that you live on your own and are gainfully employed at 26 would indicate that you are NOT a loser. "I went back to get my GED so I can attend massage therapy school." You didn't mention whether or not you’d completed the program at the massage therapy school. If you had, I'm assuming you'd at least be a part time massage therapist. "at some point I would really love to attend UNCC”. You indicate wanting to attend UNCC, however you don't seem to indicate what you'd like to accomplish once you get there. You don't appear to have picked a career path that you'd like to travel. "I wasted allot of time on pipe dreams I had." Might I suggest that you visit this link? It provides a wealth of information pertaining to the following areas in literally 100's of different types of jobs. Before you make a choice about a career, you'd probably want to know something about it. Check here first: Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition. http://www.bls.gov/search/ooh.htm * Nature of the Work * Training, Other Qualifications, and Advancement * Employment * Job Outlook * Projections * Earnings * Wages * Related Occupations * Sources of Additional Information Having spent some time researching the direction in which you want to travel, you'll have a much better idea of the "Training, and Other Qualifications" that you'll need to get you there. You now have the basis of a "Game Plan" to follow. Since most community colleges have "open admission" policies, you can use a CC as a stepping stone to a 4 year college. Once you’ve identified the program of study or your college “major”, you’ll want to visit the community college/s that you are thinking of attending and ask about such things as articulation agreements and 2 + 2 programs. You’ll ALSO want to visit the four year college that you’re planning to transfer to so that they can assist you in developing your “game plan”. There are instances where you may find a local college/university that will accept more than your basic GEN ED courses towards the degree that they award on a case-by-case basis. I’d recommend that you obtain a copy of the community college’s catalog and bring it along with you when you ask for assistance at the 4 year school. I’m sure that the professors there will be willing to indicate which courses they will or will not accept in their program if you make it clear that your intent is to graduate from their school. Good Luck! The site below is a great source of info for both students and parents of college bound students. : http://www.college.gov/wps/portal/ You can find out what sort of Federal Financial Aid is available to you at this site: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

you can go on any college web site and see what the requirements are to attend there. Most colleges do accept a GED. None of the credits you get at message therapy school would transfer over to a four year college. You may be better off just starting college classes. You may be able to get a good financial aid package. My son applied at the age of 24 and was able to cover all costs with grants and loans

I've been teaching people's children about atheism?

I've been teaching people's children about atheism?
I hand out pamphlets outside schools to teach kids how not to believe in God. It's been very rewarding, most of them seem very convinced and quite happy to hear the news. Here are my next stops: Lincoln, Nebraska Tuscaloosa, Alabama Atlanta, Georgia Sacramento, California Charlotte, North Carolina Topeka, Kansas Does anyone know of any good schools where I can hand out more pamphlets, or some other cities I could visit? JW -- Incorrect. There is nothing wrong with preaching to people. In fact, part of what's wrong with the world is the worst beliefs get preached the most. We need more atheist preaching. Furthermore, people rarely "arrive at conclusions on their own." 90% of what I believe came from studying the works of other people. I think I'd be a worse person if I knew the truth about science and the universe and DIDN'T do the right thing and tell children about it. Shame on those of you who keep the truth to yourselves. Ethan -- the children ARE making their own decisions. I'm not forcing anyone to believe anything. But I am giving them all the information so they can make an educated decision. You don't want kids to have educations? You sicken me. Genessa -- I understand your alarm, but disagree that their hysterics are a bad thing. What are they gonna do? Religion's days are numbered -- this is the age of information.

Just wondering: why are you proselytizing? From an objective view, it doesn't seem to make you any better than JWs and the like. People discover truth in their own time and if they want to.

You can come to my cooky christian school and try to talk some sense into the people......they'd probably crucify you! =)

Great job. It's sad that schools are not teaching kids about Atheism as well as comparative religion in the first place though.
8 :
Someone already mentioned Salt Lake City, but you should go there. Target private religious schools!
9 :
I pray that you come to the truth before it is too late. I also will pray that those children who you hand a pamphlet to will throw them in the garbage.
10 :
again, you do not know how to tell the truth....... another simple observation........... go in peace.... God bless
11 :
You're just as bad as an extreme believer trying to convert everyone to their religion. Let the kids make a decision on their own and stop trying to influence their lives. If they can feel the touch of God, then why would you stop them? God is what you make of it, and is a personal thing, and sometimes it's comforting to think that you may not be alone. I'm an agnostic saying this, and I don't feel the touch of God whatsoever, but you sicken me.

When in Sactown, be sure to swing by the suburb of Roseville California. There is Jebus in them thar hills... and in the subprime-financed Mini Mansions. A little Atheism might do those kidlets good.
13 :
Well, I can tell you for sure to steer clear of New York City because the kids probably wouldn't be able to read the pamphlets.

Yes, you can visit your mothers house.

18 :
I see you are targeting children. What right do you have to speak to children without contacting their parents first. As far as I look at it that constitutes solicitation and no different from church groups or social organizations handing out stuff during school time or on school grounds. Even though they are called public schools a person has no right to hand out or talk to any children without parental or school permission. We try to teach our kids to keep away from children and you are condoning that very concept. Do you believe children should talk to strangers or are you exempt because you must spread your beliefs on others particularly children? Making this decision is a mature and personal one. Leave the kids alone.

Oh please come to Central FL. Wear your safety suit though, these people are Baptists lol.

Is geograghy being taught in schools anymore??

Is geograghy being taught in schools anymore??
I recently had to spend a huge amount of time on the road throughout the U.S.A. and was surprised by peoples lack of knowledge of regions, states and thier locations. I'm from Virginia, not exactly a tiny or easily missed state especially from a U.S. history standpoint! I was amazed by how many people thought I was from a state bordering or near New York or Florida. I didnt even bring up im a native of Delaware! Another thing I noticed was how many people I've met, no offense, but young people, that had no idea in what state certain cities are located. I'm not talking about places like Nahunta Georigia or Ten Sleep, Wyoming, I'm talking about cities like Kansas City, Missouri. Charlotte, North Carolina and Santa fe, New Mexico. My wife is a Geogragher and brought it to my attention. What do you think? What are your experiences with Geograghy or your kids Geograghy schooling? Please understand this post is not an indictment. I'd like to do something to help if it's an issue.

I saw US geography being taught a little in some classes (usually fifth and sixth grade) that I subbed for, and geography of the Eastern Hemisphere being taught in seventh grade. Some students take a World Geography class in high school, but the schools around here only require the class for those who don't take world history. However, I noticed a lot of older students forget it.
2 :
Yes, I just took geography last year in high school. It's not the teachers' fault. The students are the ones to blame because they never do their homeworks and project.
3 :
They taught me some in elementary school, around 4th or 5th grade. After that, they didn't really bother with it.
4 :
It seems that many students just don't really see it as a necessary thing to know. It's pretty sad when some people i know don't even know where some states are located. I've had people ask me which coast was new york located. This is the same thing that is happening to history too. It's just not being seen as important to some people.
5 :
I had geography in the 6th grade and we hardly learned anything about the U.S;it was mostly just about the locations of other countries and their histories. They don't teach U.S. history until highschool where I'm from, which is really lame. It's all world history. As for learning about other countries, I always thought it was interesting that they could talk to us about the religion but if we ever got to Christianity or one of the others predominate in the USA it became taboo. If they can talk about one religion they should be able to talk about them all. They do still teach geography but it is focused more in other countries. The schools must think the students already know about the geography of their home country.

What do you think of these characters?

What do you think of these characters?
They're for my book, and they're long lost fraternal twins. Brandi Noel Hulse - A 17 year old girl living in San Antonio, Texas. She lives with her single mom and she never met her father, who died in a car accident. She's very sarcastic and reserved and is known for lying about pretty much everything. She's confused by why she's here and how she feels like have of her is blacked out, except at night when she hugs her pillow really tight as if she's holding onto someone -and that half of her is back. Rufus Carter Smith (Hulse) – A 17 year old boy living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Lives with a foster family, doesn't known anything about his real family. He's very open and friendly and is known for always wanting to help. Although he seems cheerful and happy on the inside, Rufus lives a double life who drinks alcohol with some kids at school. He often wakes up with his head vibrating with pain, and he can forget the feeling of someone not there.
