We are thinking of relocating there and was wondering if any one could tell us about life there. Such as their atitudes towards northerners and cost of living. I have 3 school age children and am wondering about school ditricts as well. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's still kind of a "small town" although it's been growing kind of fast. And it's still a good place to raise a family. It's not as fast paced as the northern states and believe it or not, it's not as fast paced as a lot of southern cities either. Many of the people here are still quite friendly - even though they're kind of agressive on the road. And we don't drive as well as people up north do in the snow. We don't get that much snow. There are some quiet neighborhoods here but there are also some bad neighborhoods. No real ghettos though. The crime rate goes up and down, but it's not like a "sin-city" type of atmosphere. I've met a lot of people who've moved here from Canada, Michigan, Ohio, New York, etc. They all make fun of how slow the city and people are and how people can't drive, but I haven't heard many complaints about the schooling. And they've been here for years. So, it can't be too bad. It's getting kind of like Atlanta, Georgia, but not as fast. One of the guys I know always complain about the people at his daughter's day-care though. A lot of the schools that are here now, require a uniform that is khaki pants and a blue "button-down" (or polo-style) shirt. High school and some middle schools may not require this. As far as cost of living, to rent (or buy) a house in a middle-class neighborhood, will probably cost you at least $750 on up. And that's about 1200 or so square feet. The food is less expensive than up North and you'll miss some of the stuff you use to eat, but at least you'll get a chance to try some southern-style grits! Entertainment is less expensive. And we have a Wal-Mart in every section of the city - even one close to uptown Charlotte, so you'll find some sales everyday. Gas is definitely cheaper. It may be half of what you pay up there. Here I think it was $2.29 today where I went. I never look. Sales tax is about six or six and a half cents on the dollar (I'm guessing - but no more than 7%). You can look on Charlotte.com for more info that may help. Also, the county we live in is called Mecklenburg County. You can probably find out about taxes and licenses by "searching" with those keywords. Look up "North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles" too.

The top-ranking school system in NC has for a long time been the Chapel Hill/Carrboro city school system. Wake County (which includes Raleigh & Cary) also ranks pretty high, but is lately extremely overcrowded.
7 :
Davidson County, Wallburg area outskirts of Winston-Salem and Thomasville NC.

Charlotte-Mecklenberg system is the most advanced that i know of. i think i saw a news report a few weeks ago about i think Chatam county usually being number 1 in the state. (www.news14.com should help) DO NOT COME TO FAYETTEVILLE!!!! STAY AWAY!! lol. the school systems sucks here, except for Southview's IB academy but unless you want your kids in Harvard you don't need it.

call the local board of education they will put you on the right track
2 :
go to the school and get one.
3 :
the diploma... is odd to ask. Usually, what they want is a transcript showing the classes you took, grades, and when you graduated with what degree plan etc. To get that, call the school district or the high school you graduated from.
4 :
Call the school.
5 :
What's the problem? Did the school close down? If so, contact the school board, or elevate it to the Ministry of Education for the state.
6 :
Call the school's office. I work in my high school's office for an hour each day, and atleast one person calls a week looking for transcripts or stuff like that from when they went to the school.

Information on Charlotte, North Carolina?

Information on Charlotte, North Carolina?
My husband and I want to look into possibly moving to North Carolina. We have a 2 1/2 year old girl and we currently live in Massachusetts. I was wondering what you might be able to tell me about Charlotte or other surrounding areas.. We haven't started looking very much yet. So if you might have any web sites to offer that would be good. We are looking for places to live, things to do in the areas, what the schools are like, and what you think of the place. Thanks!!

Charlotte is the largest city in the state of North Carolina, as of 2008, the 17th largest city in the United States, and the largest city between Philadelphia and Jacksonville. It is also the fifth largest city on the east coast. It has a 2006 estimated population of approximately 630,478. It is the county seat of Mecklenburg County, and is located in the south-central part of the state in the Piedmont region, extending to the South Carolina border. The city's economy has and is continuing to mature starting in the 1990s and continuing through the 2000s to become dominated by financial services, as well as retail commerce. According to 2006 estimates, Charlotte is the 5th–fastest-growing among large U.S. cities and the largest metro area between Atlanta and Washington, D.C.. A resident of Charlotte is referred to as a Charlottean (IPA: /ˌʃarləˈtiːən/). Nicknamed The Queen City, Charlotte (as well as the county containing it) was named in honor of the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818) (Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg), who had become queen consort of King George III the previous year. During the American Revolution the British Commander in the Southern Colonies, General Cornwallis, occupied Charlotte but was driven out soon afterwards by the fierce opposition of the city's residents to British rule. Cornwallis famously wrote that Charlotte was "a hornet's nest of rebellion", leading to another city nickname: The Hornet's Nest. As of 2006, the Charlotte metropolitan area had a population of 1,583,016. The Charlotte metropolitan area is part of a wider thirteen-county labor market region or combined statistical area that has an estimated population (as of 2008) of 2,491,650.

well if you like the south..........but NC really can't compare to Boston.
3 :
I never lived there but I 've been there and quite a few of the people who live there are from the northeastern states and is the least southern type state in the south. You feel like you are not in the south. The people seem to be friendly and there are alot of things in or near Charlotte. Raceway , famous amusement park and other adventurous tourist spots. There were alot of jobs there at one time, transplants from the other states. I enjoyed by trips there but I don't live there. There's no southern charm there like in other southern states.

i just moved to charlotte a couple months ago and it's an alright place to live, I guess. Probably not as great as Boston even though I've never really been to Boston, haha. Like most cities, Charlotte has quite a few "ghetto" places. For example, I say you stay clear from West and East Charlotte. Nothing but crime and bad news. East/West Charlotte also tend to have the worst high schools. There're a couple colleges here as well. Of course there's UNC-Charlotte, which is in North Charlotte. That's where I go. It's alright, I guess. The campus and the people are pretty nice and the college itself is expanding so that's good I guess. Another popular college is Queens College. It's a private college, but it's located smack dab right in the middle of uptown Charlotte so that's pretty awesome. (UNCC is in the middle of nowhere. Well I think it is, haha.) Most people I know though go to Central Piedmont Community College. Only because it's a whole lot cheaper and more accessible. Also Charlotte is a loooong ways away from the coast, about 6-7 hours. The mountains are a lot closer, just a couple hours away and you go skiing or trekking or whatever is you like to do up there. There's actually quite a few things to do here. It just depends on what you like. If you like amusement parks, there's an amusement park called Carowinds really close by. If you like concerts and basketball games, you always catch something at Bobcat's Arena. And if you'd like to catch a football, you can go to Bank of America Stadium. Plus a number of things to do uptown like clubbing, and the like. Also there's the Lowe's Motor Speedway if you're into the whole NASCAR scene. Whether or not you made the right decision is completely up to you. Personally I think you'll learn to like this place. It's not bad, you just gotta know what you like and what there is to do. You'll be able to catch on pretty quick though. Like I said, I just moved here, so I'm still trying to adjust and see what this city has to offer. Hope that was somewhat helpful to you and good luck with the whole move/transition :)

charlotte itself is not a good city to live in---high crime, high cost of living, and bad schools. some of the "bedroom" cities near by are much better and out of mecklenburg county such as concord, mooresville, and gastonia....a bit further is hickory and shelby

Hello, I am a college graduate in Charlotte North Carolina. I have a B.A in Psychology?
Hello, I am a college graduate in Charlotte North Carolina. I have a B.A in Psychology and plan on going to graduate school for counseling in the near future. I want to counsel people with "everyday" type issues and do not want to own a private practice. Since May 2009 I have searched for employment and have been unsuccessful. Please share with me possible employment locations and any great jobs which will allow me to use my degree. Thanks. Also, please share with me any colleges in North Carolina that does not require G.R.E for their counseling or social work program. And I was told to consider a master in Social work because they have more options than counselors and because I do not need to have a License in social work to counsel people. Is this true? (Again I am in Charlotte N.C) Thanks, :)

You need a graduate degree or you won't find work in your field. If you want to be a social worker I suggest you research Margaret Sanger first, you may change your mind.

There aren't too many jobs for those with a bachelor's degree in psychology. That particular degree may be consider more of a liberal arts degree with some psychology courses or pre-graduate work. I was under the impression that a person does need to have a license to get a job in social work. Those with a master's degree in social work (MSW) need to have passed a licensing examination to become a licensed/clinical social worker (LCSW). For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'counselors', 'social workers' or such. To search for accredited programs (and I would only consider ones accredited) in counseling: http://www.cacrep.org For accredited programs in social work: http://www.cswe.org This site may have possible volunteer opportunities such as perhaps working on a crisis helpline in which the person listens to the caller and may provide information and resources as well: http://www.volunteermatch.org

Hello! I'm an Illinois transplant to Charlotte, NC and love it! The weather is good (well, except from June to September...that's our BAD weather), the schools are good, the people are friendly and Charlotte/Mecklenberg County has the best system of YMCA's I've ever seen...lots of classes, activities, programs, fitness center, etc. Cost of living is about the same as Illinois, unfortunately, and crime in the city is always on the news. We spent a year in a center city apartment and we were fine but we also had two dogs. Check out the websites below and good luck!

Have you considered Wilmington NC, New Hanover County has some of the best schools in the country. Sports are phenomenal and the weather is great. Not to mention all of the diversity! and did I mention the beach. I am not sure if this is what you mean by what you are looking for with your career, But their are lots of nice salons and spas everywhere. It is also pretty pricey to get your hair done. I hope this helps

The only school I have experience with is Univ. of Alabama. It's a very pretty campus, great for engineering, and the people are usually very courteous. It should provide good job opportunities as well.
