What is a fun and healthy activity for a teenage girl to partake in?
I'm 13 and I live near Charlotte North Carolina. My mother really wants me to join a sport at my school or do something active, so I can have something else to put other than "smart" on a college application, and for the sheer benefits of doing /something/. I am really frustrated because the internet is yeilding stupid results that are so irrelevent from my inquiries that I can't make an analogy fit. Please give your suggestions. ***I cannot do volleyball or anything similar because my left arm was recently broken.

softball is great for girls

you can do soccer, that doesn't include your arm.. and if you don't want to do any sports there are usually after-school activities you can participate in, ask your school about them.. they usually have a yearbook club, or newspaper or other things like that.. i'm on volleyball, class of 2012 and do volunteer work at my school =]

try joining track or cross country, at your age running/jogign is excellent for your body and does not require your arms. Also academic based aftter school activites such as DECA etc look great on college apps too!

why not try a swimming team or something like dancing? it is fun and enjoyable and maybe you'll find that you really like it. if you don't want to do something like sports, then things like choir or orchestra look really good on college applications too. volunteer work also looks good, and things like the scouts are great for applications (although I don't know the cut off age for joining that). even something like art would be great, basically any extracurricular activity is good because it shows the college that you have hobbies, are a well rounded person, and arent lazy. honestly i think that art and music activities get a lot more attention that sports these days just because not that many people want to partake in an orchestra or sculpture class, etc. the main thing is trying different stuff and experimenting to find something you like and enjoy doing.. then you can build that hobby and put more time into it and really cultivate it into something you enjoy and are good at. it is going to look a lot better on an application if you say, enjoy art and have awards from art contests, are a member of an art club, help sponser art related events thru a group, etc, than if you list 3 different sport teams that you played on for 2 months and then got bored with.

Sports are great. Join a school team or a club team in your town. Wait for your arm to heal, then play. Explain to the coach that your arm was broken and that you can't try out but would really like to play, and I'm sure they will let you.

swimming is always a fun sport to do, you could try synchronized swimming. Or dance, there are many different styles so you could find one that you enjoy, whether that be hip hop, break dance, ballroom, or ballet. I would strongly recommend dance because it is fun, and a great way to meet new people. Whatever you choose have fun
