I assume you're applying next year, since the deadlines for those schools have passed? That gives you plenty of time to really figure some things out that will really help you getting accepted. You definitely have a chance, especially at ECU and UNCC. Concerning the extracurricular activities: Honestly, you don't have to be an officer in anything, but it helps to be really dedicated to something for the long-term, like Band or ROTC, which technically aren't ECs, but look good, especially if you plan on continuing them in college. Concerning your SAT scores: They're not bad at all, your critical reading is on the high end of most University medians, and your math and writing are both in the mid-range of the median scores. But, you may want to register to take it again, especially if those were only your first-time scores, because many people's scores go up after the first test because they're more familiar with what they have to do. Concerning your GPA: It's not a bad GPA at all, in fact , it's really quite good, but speaking from a competitive stand point, the numbers are a little low for State and Appalachian. NC State's average high school GPA is 4.2, because what classes you take are very important to your admission, and they like AP classes. ASU's is a little lower at 3.9, but you're still a on the low side. Now keep in mind, those are the average HS GPAs, so there are GPAs both lower and high admitted into both schools, so it's not a deal-breaker, but it may be something to keep in mind. ECU and UNCC are 3.5 and 3.6 respectively, so you are competitive in both of those admissions pools. So overall, you definitely have a chance, but you chances are higher at ECU and UNCC. If you're a junior, I suggest maybe picking up an AP class, which will raise your GPA massively if you do well. It wouldn't hurt to take the SAT again, just to see if your scores improve. Remember, the colleges only get the scores you send to them. I also suggest that before you start applying, you sit down and write down all of your major achievements and what not: any jobs you've had, community service hours, if you're involved in church you can write that down, and awards you're earned, and other things along those lines. I guarantee you that your process will go a lot smoother, because you will be asked to list those on your applications, so if you have them pre-listed, you won't have to think about them every time you go to apply. Hope this helped, best of luck :)
