Hello! I'm an Illinois transplant to Charlotte, NC and love it! The weather is good (well, except from June to September...that's our BAD weather), the schools are good, the people are friendly and Charlotte/Mecklenberg County has the best system of YMCA's I've ever seen...lots of classes, activities, programs, fitness center, etc. Cost of living is about the same as Illinois, unfortunately, and crime in the city is always on the news. We spent a year in a center city apartment and we were fine but we also had two dogs. Check out the websites below and good luck!

Have you considered Wilmington NC, New Hanover County has some of the best schools in the country. Sports are phenomenal and the weather is great. Not to mention all of the diversity! and did I mention the beach. I am not sure if this is what you mean by what you are looking for with your career, But their are lots of nice salons and spas everywhere. It is also pretty pricey to get your hair done. I hope this helps
