Rental assistance in North Carolina?

Rental assistance in North Carolina?
I live with my girlfriend in Charlotte. We moved here in January of this year and money is getting tight. We live in our own apartment and pay everything on our own. I just got a job and she still doesn't. Problem is I'll be only working 12 hours a week and make minimum wage. She might get a job at my store and would be earning the same. Not enough to pay rent and other bills. She's going to start school next month which means even less income. So we're looking into government assistance. Any ideas? Please help. Thank you so much!

Charlotte Section-8 waitlist is currently closed, this means that you cannot even apply and be put on the waiting list. Generally this occurs once the waitlist is estimated at 7 years or more. Charlotte's Housing help website states that it is for low-income families, the disabled, or the elderly -- so, you and your girlfriend will not qualify for housing help because you do not meet this criteria. It sounds like you and your girlfriend need to get full-time jobs (whether she's a student or not), or else you may find yourselves living in one of the homeless shelters. There are jobs that still have high turnover rates: gas station, nursing homes, and group homes. Good luck to you.
